2.Without question, the most important point on this list. The NFL is a QB LEAGUE. If you don’t have at the very least an above average QB, your team WILL NOT WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. PERIOD. Let’s look at the 12 playoff teams last year and who they were quarterbacked by: Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Donovan McNabb, Kurt Warner, Tony Romo, Joe Flacco,Carson Palmer, Phillip Rivers, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and……Mark Sanchez?
Look – Not a coincidence most of the names on this list are studs. In fact….the only NON Pro-bowlers on this list? Joe Flacco – who should have made it last season over Vince Young….and You guessed it – Mark Sanchez. Despite what you hear in the media, an NFL QB cannot simply manage the game with a good line, running game, and defense. That is unless you have a truly dominant defense like Jim McMahon in 1985 or Trent Dilfer in 2000.Do you think Mark Sanchez is capable of putting the Jets on his back and winning the game for them? No?
You know what’s worse than not being able to win a game for a team when its needed? Losing the game for them. Let’s look at Mark Sanchez’s passing numbers last year.
Was Trent Dilfer or Chad Johnson regarded as studs at QB before they won SB's ???
They have the same thing in common as Sanchez, great defenses !!
Was Tom Brady regarded as a stud QB before he won a SB ??? He never played a postseason game prior to that season.
The problem with your theroy is, all QB's have question marks early in their carrear's, no-one is regarded as a stud untill "after the fact of playing well", Sanchez hasn't been given "ENOUGH"oppurtunity to produce and detrimine if he's a stud QB.
All he did was guide the Jets to a halftime led in the AFC Championship game his 1st season, might want to look up the history books how impressive a feat that is for a rookie !!
With time comes acculaddes, the perception of a QB can change in a heart-beat and by the end of this season Shanchez could be held in quite a bit higher level than now.

Chad Johnson??????
Trent Dilfer wasn't regarded as great even after he won. Tom Brady was great right away.
I still can't believe people are already calling the Jets Defense "great."
Seriousy - How are you gonna put the 85 Bears, 2000 Ravens, and the 2010 Jets in the same sentence????

the Jets should be able to make the playoffs last year 9-7 and an AFC Championship berth with a rookie quarterback and a rookie head coach. This was largely achieved by a dominant running game and some stellar defense. As a Jets fan your always worried about how the Jets will do cause they some how always find a way to screw but the success of last season and key acquisitions on both sides of the ball (Tomlinson,Holmes,Coles, Cromartie, Taylor) added to a strong nucleus of players would indicate that the Jets are more than capable than winning the AFC East.Submit

I posted this in another thread: I have the Jets a bit overrated too...i know they added some solid
players (LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Cromartie, Santonio Holmes, Jason
Taylor) but to me the key losses outweigh the additions (Thomas Jones,
Alan Faneca, Kerry Rhodes, Leon Washington).
Its a circus down there in the Jets locker room...the coach has outrageous comments and they way he handles the team is like no other (i wont rule this out as a possible positive). A team with Cromartie, Holmes, Edwards, Rex Ryan etc. these guys are fire crackers, they see the coach act erratically and that opens the doors for players to follow suit - Holmes and Edwards in contract years? I could easily see the two of them bumping heads. Where is the leadership going to come from with losses of guys like Faneca and Jones? From the "over-hyped" angle I've been reading in previous posts, "Sanchise?" He was already over-hyped before he made a snap with a nickname like that.
From the talent standpoint? The Jets look like a solid group. After slipping into the playoffs last year they reeled off two invaluable wins. Things have changed a bit down there too, I just dont have it all coming together this year for the green.

Last year was a fluke playoff season for sure...but they certainly beefed up in the offseason. Thats the fact that I look at this season.
Their schedule isnt incredibly difficult, but its not easy either. I have them at 10-6 at the worst, probably 11-5 tied with the Patriots for the East title. They will get the Wild Card with that record

They helped out Sanchez by giving him some weapons on the offensive end, but I cant see Revis having the same type of season he had last year. All this contract bitching shows me that he just cares about the money. Once he gets paid, he will ease back a bit.

I agree 10-5 or 11-6 team who can contend within their own division. I don't see Miami being all that great they swept the Jets last season but they stole whether it be the kick returns or the dropped Jets TD passes.

I'm not sure what they did was a fluke though they ran all over the Bengals (twice), as well as the Chargers, and almost had a chance to get a Superbowl berth against the Colts, the wins against the Bengals were whatever. But the Jet performances against The Chargers and Colts were more than admirable and I wouldn't consider them to be a fluke but I guess I'm bias.
Anyways upgraded receiving corps, the oline even without Faneca is relatively the same, and a couple additions on defence should only make them stronger provided Sanchez doesn't hit a wall and play like he did against New Orleans, and Buffalo.

This Jets hype talk is Since when does hype mean a team cannot contend for a title?
I think the Niners are getting quite an awful lot of hype, part of that has to do with a poor division, but they still are. That doesn't mean they won't win their division.

Seriousy - How are you gonna put the 85 Bears, 2000 Ravens, and the 2010 Jets in the same sentence????
My exact point !!! Dilfer won without being a stud, why can't Sanchez ??
Brady was great right away but not regarded a stud at all "before" he won, most pundits still questioned how good Brady was after his 2cd SB win, he was not regarded a stud QB, he was regarded as nothing more than a game manger, my point is, " it does not take a QB regarded as a stud as you say in your vwrite-up to taste postseason success".
Being regarded as a stud comes "after you won something in many cases" a good number of QB's have tasted postseason success well before anyone considered them a stud.
Kurt Warner was hardly regarded as a stud entering the 1999 season, he became a stud by winning. Sanchez may not be regarded as a stud now but can easily become one by winning, just like Warner did.
And just for the record, I posted this before last season's playoffs, the Jets defense against the pass was ssoooo dominate, the led the league in one-of the single most important key stats of teams that TASTE POSTSEASON SUCCESS, ave gain per pass att, by such a huge amount, they were sssoooo much better than the no.2 rank team, that the number 2 rank team would have to go all the way down to the 16th rank team to find the same amount that seperated 1 from 2, wow, that folks is domination.
That is something that's rarely been done in history.

Without question Revis is the key to this team. He single handedly shout down the opposing teams best reciever, completely dominating them most games.
When you can shout down an opposing teams top wideout as Revis did that helps the rest of the defense.
I don't think Revis will ease up myself, to play on the level he did takes alot of pride, he wants to be payed like the best because he is the best, can't blame him for that.

The only question is can the Jets defense duplicate last season.
If you follow footballoutsiders.com, their research says great defensive play is very difficult to duplicate year after year, great offensive play is much easier to duplicate.
But the teams that do duplicate it, according to their metrics almost always end-up in the SB.
I haven't seen their write-up regarding the Jets but I sure there's mention of this in it.

Wow, talk about being a hater. Sanchez wasn't so great during the regular season, but he did pretty good and stepped up in the playoffs when the pressure was on.
The Jets could've easily won 12-13 games last year, but lost alot of close games and yes Sanchez was the reason why. It's his sophomore year coming up and he'll get better, especially after playing in a couple of playoff games.
If the 2000 Ravens can win the SB with Dilfer, then the 2010 Jets can win it with Sanchez.
The Jets' #1 ranked defense and #1 ranked rushing attack was the reason for their success in 2009 and the new additions on defense will only make them better. We will see though if getting rid of Thomas Jones was a good idea or just the result of a great offensive line.
Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion but damn dude, you're making it like it's a case closed situation that the Jets will not make the playoffs. This team is built for a playoff run and that's the reason for the hype.

Can anyone name the one playoff game from last season that the NFL NETWORK hasnt re-aired?
You guessed it, Jets @ Chargers
Why?
Because the officiating was so horendous with all the cough cough missed holding calls whenever Sanchez passed, If the kid had any talent whatsoever, the Jets would have beaten the chargers by 28 with all the extra time he had to throw the ball due to all the no calls.
It was disgusting from my prespective, I own a sportsbar in Southern California and that mfix cost me an easy 4k in business the next week and god knows how much else if they made the superbowl.
I still hold a grudge even though I bet against the Jets the next week against Indy.
I usually bet 300 to 1000 a game, not a big baller by any stretch of the imagination, but the colts game was a 3000 dollar pound, the biggest bet I ever made.
Now, I think the jets have a great supporting cast, Im just not sold on Sanchez, He has all the makings of RIck Mier, Yes I sad it, keep the playbook simple and he will manage a game for you, open it up and he will fall on his A$$

Let's get this straight. The Jets Defense is "good", not great. They had a nice run in the playoffs but to even consider them in the same breath as the 85 Bears, 86 Giants, multiple Ravens defenses is nonsense. I watched that so called great Jets Defense have the lead in the 4th quarter and give it away 3 different times last year. Great defenses do not do that. Great defenses will close out a game. That being said they are a talented D and will be confident off of last years playoff run.
The offense could have their problems. I have no faith in Sanchez. If he is ever asked to actually win a game on his own I don't think he can do that. They lost Faneca and T Jones. People will say LT is a replacement for Jones but that is just not the case. Jones was a horse who carried 20 times per game and never fumbled. LT is done. Green is a nice player but I think it will be hard to replace a guy like Jones.
Not to mention that they are all walking around talking like they won the super bowl. As Big Niner mentions - they went 9-7. Freaking 9-7 and were lucky to win that many. If Indy played their regulars for that entire game they could have just as easily ended up 7-9 and no one would be talking them up for the super bowl let alone the playoffs.

To those that are upset because my argument is one-sided, that was intentional...to get people to see the flaws the Jets have. Its obvious many Jets homers have been upset by this thread.
Look at the numbers I posted. They don't lie. People have been blinded by two playoff wins.
and to compare their D to the 85 Bears or 00 Ravens is LAUGHABLE. Could they be great? Sure. They have a long way to go to get there.
I don't see this team winning more than 9 games. Feel free to bump this thread if you'd like. Could I be wrong? Yup. I'm not drinking the kool aid.
