The NHL Playoffs are the biggest postseason tournament in which one player can have the most impact.
A hot goaltender is something of hockey lore. And when a goalie heats up in the playoffs, it can quickly become a thing of legend.
Look back to last season, and Jaroslav Halak had the Canadiens knocking on the door of the Stanley Cup Final. The Ducks know a thing about red-hot goaltending too, having gone to the final in 2003 and winning the Stanley Cup in 2007 on the back of Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
And there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of candidates for this year’s hot goalie.
Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury was stellar in a 3-0 win over the Lightning, turning away 32 shots including a few saves while standing on his head.
Buffalo’s Ryan Miller looked recovered from an upper-body injury and made 35 saves en route to a 1-0 upset of the Flyers in Game 1 of their first-round series Thursday.
Also making headlines with his play was Canadiens goalie Carey Price, the guy they picked over Halak, who stopped 31 shots in a 2-0 win over the Bruins.
Great goaltending and solid defense seems to be the early trend in the NHL postseason. Five of the first eight games have gone under and two others have pushed with 5-goal totals.
Which goalie do you think has the potential to go “El Fuego” and carry his team the deepest in the playoffs?

Fleury - he has to step up big this playoff series, yes the penguins are good but they are not as good as they can be offensively, so fleury or the defense is gonna have to make up for that.

VERY underrated. completely frustrated the Duck "firepower" in game one

that's been the Pittsburgh story since Sid and Geno went out with injury. Flower made some erros in game one BUT the Bugs couldn't hit the net. will have to be even sharper tonight.
Ryan Miller, hands down.
you will get an argument from from Montreal "Price is Right" people, esp with the Habs D system, BUT people need to remember what Miller did during the Olympics AND NCAA's when he was at Michigan State. this guy usually steps up in Tourneys.
I'm a Pittsburgh AND Michigan State hockey fan BUT forced to pick ONE, I would go with Pekka Rinne. the guy is unreal when he's in the zone.

If you schmucks can manage to ask mom if you can stay up past 9pm you might be able to see Luongo play. This guy was facing 40-50 shots a game when in Florida. He's matured. Let's face it...for a team to give the "C" to the guy whom everyone's going to points the finger at after a loss... was crazy. Lou can focus on all that matters...stopping pucks! I play poker with the guy..nicest guy you will ever meet. A class act!

Welcome to the board and as Rat said, we have a tad higher class on this board than name calling and finger pointing. As you will see in the other thread I took out some trash that couldn't be civil.
Welcome again and we look forward to seeing your picks and insight posted. Just not insults. And BTW, I am east of Vancouver and have seen Luongo play plenty of times in the playoffs and also agree with a number of posters that he is a different playoff goaltender. As in "soft" But he could turn things this year. But I gotta see it to believe it.

In the long run, goalies can only go as far as the team. Some backward people cannot believe Vancouver is still the top favourite with best goaltending this season..
