I'm not gonna argue about Davis and where he ranks. In my eyes, well any baseball person who has knowledge of the game, a guy who has blown two saves all year....that's pretty damn good. The numbers support my claim but whatever. Lackey or Davis and Maddon chose Lackey. So "let's be honest here"......Davis was the better option with basically the season on the line. Plain and simple. You ALWAYS go with your best player for that given situation; you play for the moment especially in that situation.
Maddon didn't respect Taylor or Turner. He had confidence in his boy. Just like you think Wade is great and I don't. Fortunately for the Cubs they are not taking advice from an overly pretentious poster from an online betting site who had $20 bucks on the Cubs.
I can see why Maddon left his guy out there. He figured, if this works out, I will have Wade later on and Kenley may or may not reappear in the 10th or hopefully the 11th when he may have a chance to get Bryant/Rizzo another AB.
This was a 4-1 game, looked uglier than it was, Cubs played well enough to win. Came down to one pitch against probably the most consistent and clutch hitter of 2017. Turner would have smoked one off Wade too and Maddon knew that.

Ok let me explain something to you. You play to win the game, correct? Common sense right? So.....if you look at the Dodgers last nite, they did just that. Do you think for one minute there was even a question with Roberts as to what he would do with his bullpen? Nope. Jansen came in to get outs and allow the offense an opportunity to win the game. The Cubs on the other hand, or o should say Maddon, over thought himself to a loss. Lackey is not a bullpen guy; he's barely a starter. Sorry. He's inconsistent and he stinks early on in his games. He's all over the place mentally as well. Given that, you choose him over their BEST OPTION....DAVIS. Whether you think he's a top closer or not, I don't care man. Davis is their best option yet you tell me Maddon thought he "might" be able to get out of the inning so Davis would be ready for the 10th. Dumbest thing I've ever heard. So he took a chance in the 9th for a sure thing in the 10th? Huh? FACT IS, Maddon over managed and never had a plan. I'm not talking about the cold bats here either for the Cubs. This is about a cocky, stubborn, extremely over rated manager making the wrong move again. Difference here is his team wasn't there to bail him out. As for Turner "maybe" hitting Davis too....really? So again, you go with Lackey in back back bullpen situations? I've heard people utter that Davis needed rest yet then why go to Lackey in that situation? Maddon is a schlub plain and simple and there is absoutely no explanation for that idiotic strategy you and him are supporting with "saving Davis" for the 10th. Come on now.....

If Maddon had guys like CT3 JT and Puig ready to rumble, his thought process would be, Yes bring in the best closer now.
Unfortunately half his team is overachieving AA players. Why blow his best guy now ... so he can get Tommy La Russa an AB? Please. Maddon did what he thought was best. He tried to be sly but it didn't work this time.
Dodgers have too many people on their team, you cant pitch around anyone and he knew that. Wade would have got hit sh!t pushed in so why waste him?

The walk was the killer not the homer. Lackey had him 3-2. Throw CT strikes, do not let JT come up with RISP. Wade would have been put to the wolves and game would be over either way. JT is just too strong this year and especially right now.

thats your mentality? Why waste Davis? Huh? I mean this is your argument? So the better option is to run a p.o.s. out there rather than put your best option on the mound? You are basically in a must win game and you think it's ok to save best options. Save davis for the rainy day you say? Apples to oranges? Again, are you thinking rationally? So Jansen gets the nod because he has better hitters? Think about what you are saying because you contradict yourself pretty bad here. If they are so much better bud, then all the more reason to go with your best option. Common sense. Apparently not here in this conversation though. I guess with your mentality and maddons might as well just give Davis the series off. I mean if tonite wasn't the most important nite to use your best option, no need to use him going forward. "Wade would have got hit"......Was that Maddon and your mentality with the 7 out close against the Nats. Your stance on so many levels is off but what's done is done. good luck going forward. You have to be a die hard Cubs fan because no other fan would tolerate the nonsense from a manager making those moves in the 9th. In offensive situations allowing a righty to go against a guy in Jansen who gave up only 3 extra base hits to righties all year, who batterd .140 against him all year rather than let a lefty hit. Then in the 9th with Lackey. Only Cubs fans look past the idiotic strategy of the Maddon

Your hard on for Wade is ridiculous. So Cubs have trash like Edwards, Duensing, Lackey, and then for some reason they have this amazing anointed closer called Wade Davis. The Cubs dont have a lot to work with. He knew JT was going to do some damage to Lackey or Wade. He tried his luck on Lackey but it wouldn't have made a difference, only in hindsight to people who had money on the Cubs!

Still not getting through huh? I don't care who it is, it could be whoever you want it to be.....but nobody can deny that wade is their best option. Are you denying that? If so, conversation over because it's apparent you are talking out of your a$$. And again, this has nothing to do with a bet. Act as if you win them all like all the others in here; all good but think a bit bud. "He tried his luck on Lackey"....you said it man. A manger trying to luck out in a pivotal game in the playoffs and that's ok with you. And in your previous statement you find it ok to save a best option rather than go to it when needed most. Smart thinking! Luck over best option though huh? A 2.30 era, 79ks in 58 innings, only 2 blown saves throughout the playoffs and he's bad at his job. Wake up bud. Wake up. Moving on because you ain't hearing what I've been saying. MORAL OF THE STORY: Always go with your best option at that given time. And again, if you are in denial that Wade Davis isn't their best option there, it says everything. Good luck going forward.
