He had a work like that before the Bluegrass Stakes
(08Apr Kee 5f ft 57.40 H 1/33)
and he still came out 11th and was 10th of 13 horses after a half a mile.
His work before the Derby was nice
(28Apr CD 5f ft 1:01.20 B 9/53)
and he started 11th and was 11th of 20 horses at the first call.
His racing style isn't going to change. He comes from behind. That being said, I see at least 4 other horses he could very easily be ahead of early in the race, (Atigun, Optimizer, Street Life, Ravelo's Boy) So with 11 horses in the field that would put him in 7th at the first call. If he outbreaks a couple of the others maybe he's 5th at the first call.
So yes, he could very well be a lot closer (position wise at least) then he has been in the other stakes races he's been in.
Dangerous horse man. And these guys on here who continue to claim he can't run on dirt are just fuckin clueless, period.

I have been anti-Dull-ahan from the start and why stop now, right?
I simply see him as the latest version of Stately Victor or Make Music for Me....horses that did well in the Bluegrass, showed flashes in the Derby, were 'wiseguy' plays for the Belmont, only to fail to do anything.
The more I look at his resume, the more I am reminded that it isn't that he can't race on dirt, rather it is who has he beaten...on dirt of anywhere else.
Holy Candy, a horse that ran well in the Bluegrass, failed to mount a challenge in the Affirmed yesterday, becoming the latest Bluegrass entrant to fail to impress in the subsequent start.
Until I see Bluegrass placement horses perform in the TC races, I will play against.

Let me just change that sentence to
"I definitely DO NOT agree with the people who continue to claim Dullahan can't run on dirt."
I don't like the way that came out the first time. A little to "know it all" ish.

So tell me AngryBarber is 3rd place , 1.75 lengths behind I'll Have Another,
"NO WHERE CLOSE TO WINNING THE KENTUCKY DERBY"?

I used Stately Victor as the example, and he is still applicable due to his Bluegrass win and with Ghostzappa roots, but I think the better comparison is Ice Box.
Two years ago, Ice Box was 2nd, flying late, in the Derby and considered the horse that would have won 'but for...' He skipped the Preakness, trained like a monster and was the favorite on Belmont Day. Although questions remained about his resume, they were pretty much ignored until post time.
With that being said, resume doesn't seem to matter come Belmont day (D'tara, Drossemeyer, and the horse who won last year being recent examples).
But if I am comparing IHA and Dull, one of the two clearly stands out.

Dullihan my pick rght now as well, but let's see who enters and how it sets up.
With Leparoux (mercifully) off of Union Rags now in favor of Johnny V, I think you will see a better horse.
This from today's drf.com, "At Fair Hill, Union Rags worked five furlongs in 58.50, according to Daily Racing Form, before galloping out six furlongs in 1:12.38 with jockey John Velazquez up."
Also, as much as I hate Optimizer, I have a feeling he is going to run big on Saturday as anyone out of English Channel and an A.P. Indy mare is capable of doing at 1-1/2 miles.
Not that Lukas has gotten any smarter, but I cannot believe this horse can be this bad..... and with a number of underlings in this race, stranger things have happened.

Many times. The one off the top of my head is Birdstone. Fairly sure there have been at least one more after that.

I'm with you AB.
I'll be playing against Dull-ahan in the head to head matchups as well.
I'll post on this tomorrow, but with the defection of Hansen from the Woody Stephens (there are rumors that he was sick going back to the Bluegrass), the Bluegrass is fast becoming one of the worst subsequent races by participants in modern major Derby stakes races. Not one stakes winner. In fact only one horse post-Blue won a race, an allowance sore.
