Why wait the hour after takeoff and push the nose dive at cruising altitude of 36,000 feet? If you're a suicidal homicidal lunatic,... why not just rainbow the airplane off of takeoff straight into the drink?
Co pilot has to be nuts too for the plan to work.
Not buying this at all, either. I'd think you'd want a pretty large spectacle if you were going to destroy the plane as opposed to an event no one seems to be able to figure out. My gut says serious technical problems or something similar to Flight 93 on 9/11. Nothing else seems to make a lot of sense.

Confusing stuff. News sources have two sources at Rolls Royce that both have conflicting stories about the data transmission.
Hell all we know for sure is that transponder was turned off. Back to the suicide flight for me.

True, suicidal people typically go out with a spectacle. Again the transponders were turned off though. If you're going to crash a cockpit and take an airplane, the perfect time would be on a red eye flight when the cabin lights are off and people are sleeping.

A. The 777 lost all power and or blew up and fell out of the sky.
Transponders would be on though.
B. The pilots were both suicidal and agreed to climb to 36,000 feet cruising altitude, turn off the transponders (what's the point of that, you're killing yourselves why hide make it a secret?
C. Terroists took the airplane, turned off tranpndrs, set a new heading, made mistakes and crashed.
I'll take C.... A and B just don't make any sense.

No doubt. That airplane can fly almost 8,000 nautical miles fully fueled nonstop. That's city to city anywhere in the world. You'd have control tower it in, hide the airplane, hide the passengers and keep a lot people quiet for a long time.

Why is there even an option to turn the transponder/tracking devices off?
Seems pretty stupid.

Same thought passed through my mind.
"well just in case we need to hide from radar....."
Question:
I don't suppose a transponder would be damaged or become inoperable if the airplane blew up would it? That's the only sense it would make if this ship wasn't hijacked.

Now it's confirmed by U.S officials that the airplane was sending off a signal to try and establish satellite contact for another 4 hours. Malaysia Air didn't subscribe to the service offered by Boenig but the ping will still try to communicate.
Call it 4+ hours x 460mph.......
