I'm in the process of watching OU spring game now. Ill post thoughts on it later.
Pre game keys:
Finding a corner opposite of Aaron Colvin ---- I have high hopes for Cortez Johnson
Seeing if the LB's are as good as mike stoops makes them out to be
Who are gonna be the safeties?? (I DO NOT trust Gabe Lynn)
How solid is the d-line?? ---- it is young, but rich with potential. The best d lineman has yet to hit campus in Quincy Russell. I am a strong believer on Jordan Phillips and hope he shows his true potential
QB??? ----- can Blake Bell ACTUALLY throw the football??
No concerns at running back or WR or O-line (barring injuries)
Find a TE!!!! ---- OU's offense is so much better with a TE. Hasn't been the same since Gresham. (Insert Taylor McNamara.....hopefully)

Clemson South Carolina FSU Georgia ( last week )
Clemson - Team looked good. Depth is much better. The team as a whole looks likes it's deep. Injuries yesterday to 3rd string Freshman QB Chad Kelly.... the future qb to possibly take Boyd's place when he leaves.
Best thing I saw - The DL. Looks good. A very solid 8 guys. The DL looks like it may be a strong part for the defense. LB's looked solid as well.
Worst thing I saw - beside the injury to Kelly..... DB's were out of position more than once and got hit with the home run a few times, but it is the Clemson offense...and you have to understand that the offense will beat most defenses anyways.
FSU - Team needs a ball carrier. The defense looks as good as it did last year. Very sound and good on all 3 levels. Best thing I saw - The defense. It's as good as any in the country IMO... Bama being the only one better possibly.
Worst thing I saw - QB position. I have a feeling that FSU will go with tricket at QB, I dont like it. IF I were Jimbo im going with the young QB Winston. Man he looks the part! Good looking QB. Looks like a Tajh Boyd. South Carolina - Again, a good football team. With lots of good athletes. Yeah I hate em.... but they look like a team with talent.
Best thing I saw - RB's. I really like Davis and Wilds. Both are very capable of playing and could become one of the best 2 back combo in the country. QB's looked good too. Shaw is still out and will be back for fall camp.
Worst thing I saw - The defense. Didnt like it. I know South Carolina fans dont want to hear it.... but Im gonna give it to you straight. You lost some pieces to that defense. If will show up this season. Yes Clowny is still there and yes he is not human and should be checked to see if he is on some type of steroids... LOL, JK. But It is what it is. I think the defense takes a step back. I do think you are good enough to win the East tho.

Watched an Auburn practice a few days ago. Here's my take on what I saw.
The Gus Bus has veteran SEC coaches all over the field, and you can tell they are trying to do things the right way. One of the biggest thing I noticed is that the guys are being coached from A to Z, and are being held accountable for everything they do (on and off the field). Malzahn is a good leader, and you can tell he's a winner.
I was mainly focusing on the offense, but defensively their front 4 definitely looked to be SEC caliber.
They seem to be improving at linebacker, but of course that's the only direction they can possibly go from last season. Perhaps they looked better because Jake Holland was in class. I don't know what he's studying, but whatever it is I hope he's better at that than he is at linebacker. He certainly isn't a SEC-caliber LBer. On the other hand I think Casanova McKenzie is going to be a player.
In the secondary, their safety play looked to be decent, but they are hurting at corner. Therezie and Holsey are physical corners, but are slight in stature.
At quarterback, Jonathan Wallace ran with the ones, but he and Kiehl Frazier were both terrible. Quote from Gus: "Quarterbacks - hey it's time to grow a set [of nuts] and play. It's time to grow up."
He was pissed at the offensive side of the ball - no tempo and no leadership. The QBs consistently missed wide open receivers and threw INTs. Unless that Marshall kid comes in and lights the world on fire in August, they're in big trouble at QB. I don't see how they can win more than about 5 or 6 games with Jonathan Wallace or Kiehl Frazier under center.
They'll be fair to good on the OL. Greg Robinson is a legit LT. Overall they're a little undersized for this league, but they're pretty mobile
which is good for a Gus Bus offense. Dismukes looked ok, but seemed a little light to me. Avery Young is athletic as hell but is soft as cotton candy.
The running backs are serviceable at best. Artis-Payne has a nice burst, and
Corey Grant could be their next Onterrio McSideline. Tre Mason was limited, and they had Reed playing WR. I will say that Jay Proesch could be a good
Lutzenkirchen-type weapon. He fills that HB roll pretty well.
Their wide receivers are woefully below SEC standards. Ricardo Louis looks decent, but other than him, no one really stands out. I was very unimpressed.
In summation, this was only one practice, but my take is that Auburn is on a promising trajectory with the coaching staff they have in place, but are at least a SEC-calber QB and two excellent recruiting classes away from being a major factor in the SEC West. The high water mark for this team this season is bowl eligibility.

I will add to the above that some of you may have heard that Cam has returned to Auburn to finish his degree. I know for a fact that he wasn't in class that day, however, because he was at the practice with me. I wasn't able to speak to him, but I did take a few pics. I have no clue if this is true or not, but one observer told me that Cam was already on academic probation.

Hey Boom the old ball coach none too pleased with his offensive line. His quote was " Offensive line has to learn how to block. They're pretty good at everything but blocking. Unfortunately that's all we ask them to do" Gotta love the old ball coach

Trickett will not be the starter come time for the season. As far as needing a ball carrier, they have a few good ones in Freeman and Pender. They are just injured at the moment. Losing Lonnie Pryor is one of my biggest concerns. He did so much for that offense.

You are probably right about trickett... Freeman, maybe. Tell me this. When was the last time FSU had a 1000yd rusher?? as a FSU man, you probably know the answer...so I dont have to tell you. That is why I have concerns.
What do you think of Jimbo? I really thought the future was bright but as time has moved on I have really noticed how I might be wrong about him...the guy makes so really bad moves. What the hell in NCST game last season??? He single handily lost that game for them. Why would he shut E.J down and go into a shell like that??? Mind Boggling. AND the Florida game?? WTFFF???? I think the 2012 Florida team was single handily the biggest frauds that college football has seen in the last 20 years. Easy. FSU was much better then them.. What happen?? I was so glad to see Louisville expose them for who they REALLY were....Im gonna take a play out of the SEC fanbase handbook real quick. How can a Big East team destroy them like that??? I tell ya.... they were FRAUDS!!!!
I just think last years FSU team was really good.... They IMO, should have went 13-0 and played Alabama in the NC game.

100% agree FSU should have run the table and then lost to Bama in the title game. As far as the 1000 yard back issue, well Chris Thompson was well on his way last year before his terrible injury. This year the offensive line should be pretty good in my opinion outside of left tackle, which should improve the running game from years past. I have been hearing great things about Pender too, but have yet to see what he can really do on the field. Freeman and Wilder I have seen, and know what they can do. Wilder is a beast, but I don't see him as an every down back kind of guy. Freeman isn't anything special, but he can get the job done if needed. I go back and forth on Jimbo all the time. They could have a much much worse coach out there, but he really needs to get FSU to a MNC game in the near future or it's time to move on. I think his biggest issue is refusal to let go of the offensive coordinating duties. I he focused more on coaching the whole team they would be better off. They need a fresh face and innovative mind up there calling plays, as is the new and successful trend in college football.
This season the schedule sets up nicely as they should be 5-0 heading into Clemson with a bye week before that game. That will be a great one I am sure. If they can squeak by them I think they can run the table until the Florida game.

What's up Boom? I took a little break from Covers, but glad to see you are back. Sadly, I see a few members of your fan club are hard at work busting your chops. Keep your head up man. I'm sure these guys' lives are perfect, hence the judgemental attitudes.

watch out for Texas - 19 starters returning including two of the #1 RB's (in their respective annual classes in the nation coming out of HS) in Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray, along with a very hungry Mack Brown...this year's N Dame...you heard it hear first...

The Michigan State football entered the spring game with a lot of question marks and end the spring game with a lot of question marks as well. First off, the strength of the offense this year will be the offensive line. Both Skyler Burkland and Fou Fonoti are back from injuries and will be the starters at the tackle positions. Dan France who was the left tackle last year will move inside to right guard. Blake Treadwell is the starting left guard but that job could be Jack Allen's when he returns from injury. The starting center will be Travis Jackson. So, on the offensive line Michigan State will have three seniors and two juniors.
The quarterback position is a battle in the spring practice and quite frankly no one has won the job as of yet. Maxwell went 9 for 20 for 110 yards and one touchdown. Tyler O'Conner went 3/7 for 59 yards and two picks on resulting in a touchdown. Connor Cook who lead the team to victory last year in his only game playing against TCU went 10/26 for 217 yards and one touchdown. The numbers are not pretty as of right now.
Running back position is another battle going on in the spring practice. The depth chart going into the spring game was: Nick Hill, Jermery Langford, and redshirt freshman Nick Tompkins. Nick Hill is who fairly small didn't have a good game at all. He went for 24 yards on 9 carries. Langford had 31 yards on 10 carries. And Tompkins had 43 yards on 4 carries. However, there was a big surprise in the spring game. Riley Bullough the brother of the middle linebacker Max, a freshman who is listed as linebacker played some running back during the game. He had 48 yards on 11 carries. He also completed a trick play 12 yard pass to his brother who lined up on offense for one play.

Thanks for posting man.... I hate that kid Maxwell. Just a horrible football player imo.
