Boom, . Tigers should be very good next year , and still find a way to get beat by some 4-8 team at home. I'm supposed to go to CU next year for a game. I'll have to give you a heads up so we can grab a beer at the Esso Club.
The BCS "doesn't work," but managed to find the best team in the country, um, again. We don't need a playoff. We'll probably wind up with one, but this system winds up with the best team crowned far more often than, say, college hoops ('83 State, '85 Nova, '88 KU, '11 UConn, and those are just off the top of my head). Tournaments are fun. Basketball is well-suited to having one. Just don't think it gives you anything more than a tourney winner most years. And look what it does to the regular season.
And, regarding #10, it's just so true. Most of the old guard has left. Many of the sort-of-old-guard, like me, post far less. The threads of truly great cappers (world class; could-do-this-for-a- living-if-they-don't-already cappers) get pushed to page 4 by 80 threads about how the SEC sucks, or some such.

Clemson Tigers showed that they will never be a powerhouse with Dabo Sweeney at the helm---and I feel bad for their fans who believe the opposite. You guys have more talent than 95% of the teams in the country and a coach who doesn't know how to use it.
The SEC wasn't really all that this year I would say outside of the title game. The Big 12 was overwhelmingly the best conference to watch all year.
When Texas has the #1 defense in the land next year---despite playing offensive juggernauts in conference, hope the SEC guys give it some recognition.

we may not know exactly what Paterno did, but we know what he DIDN"T do, and that was enform the proper authorites of what took place.... Lets say you knew of a crime that took place or suspected that a crime had taken place at your workplace.. and imagine that it was a crime against a child... what are you going to do? report it to your boss, or call the police? you know damn well he knew, and went along with sweeping it under the rug, to try to help protect his friend... DoubleUp hit the nail on the head !

For my money, I would have to say the one player that I think was the best I have ever seen play; Charlie Ward. I know that may not be a popular pick, but that guy was simply graceful. He was accurate, threw a great, catchable ball, was elusive, fast, athletic as hell and could throw a dart on the run. The guy gets overlooked a lot, but damn he was good.

10. One of the biggest things I learned this year was how bad some of posters are here on covers. Why these guys make a life out of stalking others and trying to bring others down is beyond me. Why attack people here on covers? Why? Are we not here to help each other? Are we not here to give our opinions and insight on our teams? Then why is it we talk and treat each other the way we do? This forum CAN be a place where tons of knowledge could be passed on from person to person but yet it has turned into a fucking clown show at times. You know what? Mods on here need to do a better job of controlling the trash in here. I know it sounds like I'm calling you guys out a little....I am. Sorry men, if there is one thing you know about Boom is.......HE WILL TELL IT LIKE IT IS, IT'S CALLED THE TRUTH.
---I feel the same way, only been on this site for a short time, but it took that much time to realize what you said and learn how to tune out some of the bs found on here
Positive note there are some really "sharp" guys here, just gotta sift through tons of BS to find it

Thats right, you DONT KNOW what he he KNEW. Guy was 75ish when this all went down. Is it possible he didnt fully understand what was going on? Isnt that possible?
Its great to say what you would have done, but it doesnt matter. I'm not defending anybody. I simply dont know all the facts, and neither do any of you guys. Period. Watching espn does not qualify you to testify against Joe Pa.

It's called reading the grand jury indictment. Here's a direct quote from the indictment. It's the question posed to Joe Pa and then his reply.
"Q: Without getting into any graphic detail, what did Mr. McQueary tell you he had seen and where?
Mr. Paterno: Well, he had seen a person, an older — not an older, but a mature person who was fondling, whatever you might call it — I’m not sure what the term would be — a young boy.
Q: Did he identify who that older person was?
Mr. Paterno: Yes, a man by the name of Jerry Sandusky...
Q: I think you used the term fondling. Is that the term that you used?
Mr. Paterno: Well, I don’t know what you would call it. Obviously, he was doing something with the youngster.
It was a sexual nature. I’m not sure exactly what it was.
I didn’t push Mike to describe exactly what it was because he was very upset."

Im not letting this thread turn into us discussing the Penn S.T saga.
Look im a father. One of my most important jobs of a father is protect his children. So believe me when I say im not defending anybody here. But I will say that I personally dont think Joe Pa fully understood what the hell was going on. It's just my opinion. Would I have done more? Absolutely.... but then again a 30 year old right thinking individual who's mind is sharp. I really think if Joe Pa knew what was really going on he would have done more. Maybe he did know and refused to do more.... I dont know. NONE of us know for sure. The only reason im giving him the benefit of a doubt here is because of what we know of Joe Pa for the last 50 years.... That's all. The man has lead a great life for the last 50 years and since none of us really know what he knew and didnt know.... I think we or I will give him the benefit of a doubt here.

everyone Thanks..... I really enjoyed the season with all of you.
andarmac - stay out of my threads you low life piece of garbage
maineroad - Absolutely, you let me know and we will drink a few. Of course I dis agree about the playoff vs bowl system with you... but hey, it's cool man.... it's a free country, you have the right to be wrong. JK
RLP - I too think ward was a tremendous player. I could go all day on great players.... especially from the 90's. But for my buck....Frasier was the best I ever seen.

Clemson was extremely young this season. Most of Clemson's seniors were on the defensive side of the ball, and we all know that wasn't their strength.
I will give Dabo one more season to see if his new defensive coordinator can shore up the defense. They certainly have a lot of talent on that side of the ball.

I hate the haters....
train... what you think about your boys going to the SEC? When you guys play the Gamecocks in September I could make a special trip down to Cootville if your attending that game. It's only about 1 1/2 from here.... Prolly a long way from Mizz tho

word around here is Dabo is perusing Venables
Look. I think its easy to see that Dabo is a upgrade from Tommy Bowden. He has already done more in three years then Bowden did in 10. Clemson will be a much better team next season.

An interesting season to say the least. Thanks for the insight and opinions that help make me money this season. Look forward to a better year in Clemson and hope to meet up @ the Esso.

Would be awesome, but I doubt I make that trip, I think its a 12+ hr drive.
Mizzou is not ready for SEC football. We are gonna get smoked big time. Should be a pretty good fade early, especially against Georgia.

1. Scandals. 2011 will always be remembered as the year of scandals. Weather it be the Penn ST saga or the Ohio ST players and tattoos or the thugs in Miami, it will be forever be remembered as the year of scandals. I hate it too. I hate when anything takes away from the game we all love so much. Will 2012 be free of scandals? Only time will tell.
Agree
2. RG3, Everyone of you better be thankful that you get to say.." I got to see that guy play". Why? RG3 may be one of if not the greatest college football players I have ever witnessed. I actually put him on the level of Tommie Frazier. Remember that guy? I know a lot of younger guys dont remember him that well.... but that guy was insane. RG3 we all thank you for being great and yes I'm proud to say I got to see that guy play.
I caught a perfect game once. Problem is my 13 year old team mistakenly got scheduled against an 8-10 year old team. Socks is good but 8 or 10 college players come to mind that were better against better comp.
3. This was the year of ESPN controlling the media. what you say? Yes, I have said it a million times and I will say a million times over. The media ( espn ) shoved the "rematch" down our throats. Was Alabama a great team? Absolutely they were. remember it was me months ago telling you guys that this may be the greatest defense we will ever see. But this isn't the point. It's about fairness and about rewarding teams and IMO, Alabama didnt deserve to be in that game. Although they beat LSU that's not the point. The point is clear. The only reason Oklahoma ST wasn't in that game was because of the love affair that ESPN has with the SEC and they have the power to manipulate the way people think. Guess what? Good thing you have Boom here to clear your minds of the garbage and explain to you whats real and whats fantasy.
4. A great legend walks away from the game. Love him or hate him, Joe Pa is and will always be remembered as a ambassador for college football. The guys team first mentality was a rare thing that coaches dont seem to have these days. DO I think he did enough to stop what was going on? Probably not. Do I think that he really fully understood what was going on? Sorry but I dont. I know a lot of you guys dont want to hear that but it's my opinion. I think Joe Pa is a good man who got caught up in a bad deal. The college football world says good bye Joe.
5. Teams who woke up. Michigan has to come to mind. Hoke ( like I said he would LOL.. ) would revive this program. I think that this team will start to build on this past season and become that Michigan of old that we were use to seeing. Clemson. I know they had a melt down in the Orange bowl but this team is clearly on the rise. Do any of you know how many players Clemson has that are sophomore or younger? 73 to be exact. 52 Freshman and 21 Sophomore on a team that list 106 players on the roster. This team is young and will only get better.
6. Im so sick of expansion. Rivalry's destroyed by the greed of some. It's crazy we are losing games like Texas Texas A&M and Missouri Kansas. This IS college football guys. this is why we love it. I live in the state of South Carolina, Believe me I have to here it for 365 days a year that the Gamecocks beat us. I hate the gamecocks...but this this is what makes it great. I dont know about you guys, But I like it just the way it is.
7. The game is changing men. I know that you guys think that defense wins championships... but its simply not true anymore. I think what Alabama did was amazing but I do think that teams like this are becoming extinct. Offense wins championships, Sorry but its true. How you say? Ask Green Bay, New Orleans, New England, Last years Auburn team. What do all these teams have in common? Great offenses. More importantly great QB's. Show me a great QB and I will show you a champion. I know that teams like Alabama and the 2001 ravens will show up every now and then but as for the "norm"...its offense now baby.
8. Bad Coaching and officiating. I seen some of the worse coaching I have ever seen in all my life. I know it seems like we all bitch about it every season but my goodness. Whether it was managing the clock or simply blowing timeouts that cost there teams...it was bad. Officiating is every gamblers " nemesis". I hate them as much as the next guy but some of these clowns dont understand how to ref a a damn softball game more less a college football game.
9. THE BCS dont work. We need a playoff. Did we learn this, this year? NO!!!! We re- learn it every year. It's a beauty contest and media driven concept. We know we need a playoff, the Germans know we need a playoff, the Haitian farmers know we need a playoff but our " NCAA Committee " doesn't get it. Somebody scream with me now.....WTF!!!!!!!!! I have a simple plan. Just call me up, I will fix it all.
10. One of the biggest things I learned this year was how bad some of posters are here on covers. Why these guys make a life out of stalking others and trying to bring others down is beyond me. Hope you all enjoyed all the rants and 10 things we learned this season.
June will be around the corner and so will I be with my College football breakdown.
BOOM,
I guess Green Bay's and Saints offense weren't good enough to win a Championship. 3 out 4 of the teams left have good / great defenses. Defense win championships!

Hey Dip shit!! Did you not watch the games? The games were won by offense... LMFAO. You just made my point. The saints had 5 turnovers and still scored damn near 40 points on the NFL's best defense. BTW... how was that game won? By a great drive at the end of the game by SF.
The G.B game was won by what? Offense. Giants did nothing to stop G.B. Green Bay had 8 dropped passes and fumbled 3 times in the game...plus dealing without there offensive coordinator...due to the DEATH of his son.
Some of you people are amazing.
You ever wonder why guys like you never make money gambling on football? And do you wonder why like guys like me DO?
Because only see what you want to see. You see no truth to the matter. You only believe what some guy you heard on TV with the age old saying " defense wins Championships "
Look around and open you eyes kid. Trust me when I say this...........
