I will start by saying that I think USC is looked at
completely backward this season.Everyone wants to make such a big deal about their offense and say their
defense just needs to keep them in the game.I think their defense is what will win them games and a
possible title this year.Every
year their defense absolutely pounds teams and keeps them under 10 points on a
consistent basis.I have no reason
to believe that won’t happen this year.I don’t care how many starters they have lost they have another 5 star
recruit to fill in at every position on the field.Pete is a GREAT defensive mind and does not get nearly
enough credit for his ability to put these kids in the NFL year after
year.
I don’t expect the USC defense to give many points to the
Buckeyes.They have the speed to
keep with any player (aside from Pryor) and will be able to stack the box.I can’t imagine they are worried about
Pryor beating them with his arm.The Buckeyes will have trouble running the ball which will put Pryor in
obvious passing situations.He is
awful with his mechanics and I can’t see him beating this USC defense with his
arm.
However offensively I think USC will have a much tougher
time scoring than people think.I
have always said that the triple option is one of the toughest schemes to play
against when it is run properly. It allows mediocre teams to stay in ball games they have no business
being in.Lets remember that the
Buckeyes were one play away from going in to cover the spread, and drastically
alter this line.
USC had A LOT of trouble moving the ball initially against
San Jose St.They obviously have a
true freshman that they are not asking much of…and with good reason.THE USC OFFENSIVE LINE IS THE BEST LINE
COLLEGE FOOTBALL HAS SEEN IN 10 YEARS.There are 4 possible first round picks and they are fast and
athletic. They will be able to run
the ball with their stable of running backs, because no defensive line can
handle what USC brings to the table with their offensive line. However the equalizer will once again
be the quarterback.If Aaron Corp
was the starting quarterback I think this line would be closer to USC -8 to
10.If this team had a QB that a
defense would fear throwing the ball they would have a VERY good chance at
beating Florida for the title.But
NO true freshman quarterback is able to make a defense fearful of their arm, especially
on the road, at night, in front of 100,000 plus fans.Ohio State will be able to stack the box and offset the
enormous advantage USC has in the trenches by simply bringing more players than
can be blocked.This will force
Barkley to have to make throws he is not ready to make, and thus USC will
struggle offensively.

As I stated above Ohio State is also going to have trouble
offensively.I have said over and
over that the OSU OFFENSIVE LINE IS THE SOFTEST IN THE COUNTRY.This is why Pryor is constantly
sacked/pressured even though he is one of the fastest players in college
football. As we saw on the 4th
and 2 play against Navy they get no push…and if they can’t push around NAVY god
help us with USC.I see us unable
to run the ball with any kind of consistency. And as we all know about how I feel about Pryor he is
nowhere near ready to scare teams with his arm, meaning most of our big plays
will come off broken down plays where Pryor is scrambling.
Defensively I think Ohio State will do much better than
people are giving them credit for.Did they play bad against NAVY…YES.Does any team run an offense like Navy that Ohio State has
faced…not really.OSU has and will
always have great defenses, great talent and well coached players on that side
of the ball.Between our wide
receivers and out defensive teams Ohio State has lead college football in
players drafted since 2001 with 77.Talent is not an issue on the defensive side of the ball.I do think USC can run the ball on us
but as I stated the great equalizer is the freshman quarterback.OSU will stack the box and cause this
USC team to move with little to no consistency on the offensive side of the
ball.I think OSU will do a great
job defensively and keep this a close game.I also think a major factor is that USC will have NO game
film to plan against us defensively.I don’t think Ohio State will run one single formation defensively
against USC that they ran against Navy.To me this is a very critical factor for such a young quarterback.

SCORE
EARLY- If Ohio State scores early and
makes it a situation where USC is playing from behind it will help us
immensely.This means the
ball will have to be in the hands of Barkely even more and as you have all
gathered I think it’s a big problem for USC if that happens. On the other side if USC gets up
early they will be able to run the ball and play clock control which will
make it almost impossible for us to stop. They will have their way with play actions which will
allow Barkley to have easier uncontested throws.
OPEN
IT THE FUCK UP- Tressel needs to open
up the playbook and let Pryor be the most dynamic player on the
field.I want 4 and 5 wide,
gadget plays, screen, anything to keep this USC defense off balance.I KNOW we will not be able to run
the ball with any kind of consistency. The only chance is to get Pryor in the open field and
let him make plays.Make the
safeties have to come up and play the scramble and open up the downfield
plays.If Tressel tries to
play classic Big 10 ball, and run it and run it then pass it on 3rd
down, we are in DEEP shit.
MAKE
MATT BARKLEY BEAT US- I don’t care
what Tressel has to do, but if we lose this game because they run the ball
down our throats I will be very upset.Ohio State needs to load up the box, and sell out for
the run.They need to do
anything and everything to stop the run and make this true freshman come
up big in the biggest game of his life.If we end up losing because Barkley goes for 300 yds
and 3 td then so be it, and I will give him all the respect in the
world. What I do know is how
good the offensive line/running game is for USC, what I don’t know is how
ready Barkley is…make them prove how good he is.

Why UCONN? They are gritty, but the big RB is gone. How are they going to control the clock, and slow a faster team down?
Be careful with that Marshall pick. VT did put 24 on a tough Bama defense. The VT defense has to be embarrassed by the way Bama RB ran over them too. Blacksburg gets crazy. VT could easily win by 24+.
I wouldn't put much stock in VT putting up 24 pts. That number is decieving if you didn't watch the game. VT scored on a 98yd kickoff return and their other scores were results of having a short field due to TO by Bama. For instance, they had a 2 play 37 yd drive that resulted in a willams 32 yd TD run. Bama dominated that game to say the least allowing just 155 yds of total offense!!!!

I think this works to USC advantage. Because a defense doesn't fear a QB, it doesn't mean he cannot beat you with the pass or at least make critical throws. If Ohio ST underestimates Barkelys/USC pass game because he is unproven, he may prove himself on Sept. 12. It's almost like a team that flies under the radar because they have been underestimated and all of a sudden they start upsetting teams and before you know it they are 6-0. And now they have a bulls eye and teams start taking them seriously. I'm not saying USC will win throwing because I too believe they will win via run because of the best line in football and the stable of running backs, but Ohio ST not respecting the pass game could lead to trouble.

There are also a lot of cappers who tell me how dumb I am for looking at a line and trying to read it and diagnose what the lines-makers are trying to tell me. I will continue to utilize this strategy, and what this spread screams to me is that UCONN will be more than competitive and be able to pull off a possible upset against the ranked/favored UNC. I look for this game to come down to a fg in the closing seconds, either way it will mean I cash a ticket.
Coach, I completely agree. I have made money for the last 6 years in several games just understanding what the line should be and adjusting from there. People will laugh at this, but I have bet several games big not knowing much about the team I bet on but really understanding that the line was a trap/sucker, etc.
My biggest trend has been two ranked teams in the top 15. The team with the higher rank is an underdog of 4 or more points and the public is pounding the dog (Oklahoma -7 vs Tech last year). You guys will laugh at this too, but if Ohio State opened up as a 15 point favorite vs. SC, OSU would be my biggest bet of the season, no questions asked.

If Pryor looks terrible throwing short routes in a 4-5 wide and we lose, so be it. But if we pound Boom and constantly have 3 and 6 because of two stupid running plays, I am gonna be pissed.

Goodluck bro, loved your USC/OSU write-up. I couldn't agree more with your thoughts on OSU to "Open It The Fuck Up". Keep that SC D on its heels and constantly guessing... and on D to pressure the youngin from SC. Again, goodluck this week
