Yeh, I originally started with a thread about reason why West Virginia might be favored today. Then I threw this thread up after I did my schedule research. Here's some of my points:
1. Marquette has NEVER won in Morgantown.
2. WV is #1 in conference in getting Offensive Rebounds, mainly due to to the workhorse senior 6'8" Kevin Jones. He works the ORs and DRs BOTH. Marquette doesn't have anybody at 6'8" or taller playing, unless Davante Gardner play, which is questionable.
Id imagine they will hold him off longer to make sure Gardner is healthy for the conference & NCAA tournies...they will need him. Without him, Jae Crowder is the only Real Rebounder on Marq. He is a workhorse on DRs, but doesn't get the It's like WV's Jones does.
Crowder will have two guys down low to contend with; WV's Denis Cilicli gets a lot of DRs also.
Marq will definitely need Gardner for tourney play.
3. WV doesn't turn the ball over all that much.
4. They've beaten Georgetown at Home and played Syracuse tough on the road losing by 2 pts.
5. HOME-COURT ADVANTAGE DOMINATES.
The Home team has won in the last 6 meetings on True Home games.
FYI: The last time they met was at the MSG for tourney. Marquette won and was just "tagged" as the away team.
AND WV has s WAY more "hostile" environment on home-court. Think about it. WV is an "actual" big college with a bigger following of Student Fanatics.
Marquette is a small religious-type college that is More Expensive to attend and outputs more higher income careers. Most of the "fans" are well-off alumni and their Sunday-dress-pants families. Marquette doesn't even have a football team.
6, WV isn't AS secure in their NCAA tourney bid. Joe Lunardi has them in, but knocking down a #10 looks good on any team's resume.
Add in the wax job ND did to WV in their last game and you can put the check mark next to WV's motivation. But you can ALWAYS make a case for any team having motivation. Even if you are 0-15 in conference a person still wants to win and if they aren't motivated to try to win, then why are they even playing the game?

Really? If recent records is all you cared about. The Knicks were 9-2 before going into Miami and we all know how that turned out.
Ignorant people like you need to find another forum to talk trash. Like Camby700 said this is Grown Men's forum. Be mature, talk mature, and most of all respect others posts.
Problem with this comparison is that Miami was 10-1 in the last 11 not 2-8....

Hey guys...can you please leave DD alone...if there's one thing we know about him, it's that he checks back often and there is a trend here that keeps repeating itself.
If we just get back to talking about the game, everything else should clear up here. There's already been enough useless bickering that we could all stuff a turkey with it and have Thanksgiving together.
Soooo, let's stop the trend,....much like Marquette never winning in Morgantown!!!!!
Go Golden Eagles!!! (My home-town team)

RUTGERS BEAT ND.......ND BEAT SYRACUSE.............DEPAUL BEAT RUTGERS..................Heres another one............PITT BEAT G-TOWN.......S FLORIDA BEAT PITT
Thanks for posting good stuff about the game. The only thing I find, IMO, "wrong" with your examples:
1. Rutgers beat ND AT HOME.......Pitt beat Georgetown AT HOME,.........yet pushing the point that HOME-COURT ADVANTAGE can mean a LOT in college hoops as YES ND and Georgetown got upset.
2. ND and Syracuse are around equal talent IMO,...........Depaul and Rutgers are of the same caliber also IMO so doesn't really apply
3. USF is better than Pitt anyways, IMO
When I sorted out Marquette's Last 12 games, I said above they lost to 1 elite, beat the 4 next toughest teams AT HOME and beat a reeling 7-8 Uconn team away.
And the Final 6 of the Last 12 games were vs JUNK teams; Pitt (4-11), VillaN (4-11), Rutgers (4-11), Prov (2-13), St. John's (5-10), & DePaul (2-13).
So I guess you more or less solidified my points on Marquette losing to a team that IMO is better than them.....Winning to teams of IMO EQUAL value AT HOME....and the last 6 don't really matter because Marquette IS better than those last 6 bottom-dwellers.

And as for the 4 teams that I believe Marquette to be closer to in talent (Cincinatti, Louisville, USF, and Seton Hall),... they beat all of them at home and would imagine that it'd be a lot closer of a game if Marquette were to travel to THEIR court
IMO if Marquette were to play Cincinatti or Louisville AWAY on THEIR COURTS, thosegames would be Very Competitive, hard-fought games, and would be Tough games IMO.
Can't wait until Wednesday when Marquette goes to Cincinatti. That's going to be a great game.
USF and Seton Hall I think they could handle on their courts.

I think we can agree that Cincinatti was a tough game. Does anybody agree that the last 13 games really just LOOKED better than it really was? Impressive in AMOUNT of wins, but deceptive as to what teams and where they played them.
Like I said before:
---------------------------------------------
Their 11 wins out the last 12 really aren't that impressive IMO. Here's the Last 12 Games broken down:
Their 1 loss was to a hot Notre Dame who is also atop the Big East.
The top 3 semi-good teams that they won in that 12-game strewith At Least a winning conference record were Cincy, LouieV, and USF which were all won AT HOME.
Then they beat an 8-8 Seton Hall AT HOME and beat a head-coachless 7-8 Uconn team on the road.
The Final 6 of the Last 12 games were vs JUNK teams; Pitt (4-11), VillaN (4-11), Rutgers (4-11), Prov (2-13), St. John's (5-10), & DePaul (2-13).
HALF of the Last 12 were against Bottom-Dwellers that totaled 21 wins, 69 losses. And most of those 21 wins were scrappin' against those same 6 crap teams.
------------------------------------------------------
I knew that Cincinatti was going to be a tough game seeing as it has been the only "tough" Big East team that they have played AWAY on their court, but Cincinatti DOMINATING Marquette from the start was really unexpected. I expected a really competitive game.
TexasD
P.S. I noticed that in some recent posts I kept saying Syracuse, but I really meant Notre Dame.
