Each week throughout the college basketball season, Covers Expert Jesse Schule will dissect the new Top 25 rankings, looking for betting value. He'll showcase the most overrated team, along with the most underrated ranked team, and an unranked squad that he feels should be in the Top 25.
Most Underrated Top 25 Team - Gonzaga Bulldogs (8-0, 5-2 ATS)
The Bulldogs have yet to face a ranked opponent, however, they have put together some impressive numbers while going 8-0 to start the season. Gonzaga poses matchup problems with their enormous front line, led by Kelly Olynyk. The 7-footer from Canada is the team's second leading scorer, averaging 12.2 points and seven boards per game. The Bulldog's big men accounted for 64 of their 85 points, in their recent victory over Pacific.
The schedule is about to get a lot tougher for the Bulldogs, playing their first true road game against the Washington State Cougars Wednesday, and then they go to Illinois to take on the No. 19 Fighting Illini this weekend. They should be up to the task and they are a good bet to move up the rankings in the next few weeks.
Most Overrated Top 25 Team - Kentucky Wildcats (4-3, 0-5 ATS)
The defending national champions have struggled early this season, with a record of just 4-3 after their first seven games. If you have been betting on the Wildcats, your might not have a lot left in your bankroll because they haven't covered the points in any of their first seven games.
They lost at home to Baylor this weekend, ending a 55-game winning streak at home. Kentucky shot just 30 percent from the field – its worst percentage under head coach John Calipari. "That's what happens when you have a bunch of freshmen out there," Calipari told reporters. So far this year's crop of young players isn't getting the job done for Kentucky, and it doesn't look like a situation that is going to improve overnight.
Unranked Team That Should Be Ranked - Wisconsin Badgers (5-3, 2-4 ATS)
The Badgers have won five of eight to start the season, but two of their three losses have come against ranked opponents. Wisconsin lost on the road 74-56 in Florida against the Gators and it came up just short against Creighton, losing 84-74 in Las Vegas.
The Badgers sure looked impressive taking on Cal this weekend, they completely dismantled the previously undefeated Golden Bears, winning 81-56. The Bears had no answer for the balanced Wisconsin attack, and the Badgers had four players scoring in double digits. The schedule will be kind to the Badgers for the rest of December and you can expect them to go on a big run.
