Clemson QB Boyd addresses sports betting rumors

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd responded to an internet rumor that he owed more than $80,000 on a gambling debt, telling reporters the rumor is false in his weekly news conference with the press.

"I have no idea where that came from," Boyd told reporters. "It was kind of shocking to me as well. That on top of the loss (to Florida State) made for a rough little weekend."

The rumor has it that Boyd dug himself quite a hole betting on NFL games. According to USA Today, that “brought laughter from Boyd as he cited the fact that his cable provider allows him access to only two games each Sunday.”

"I rarely watch NFL games," Boyd told the media.

Boyd was questioned by his head coach Dabo Sweeney Sunday morning. Sweeny told reporters, “He just shook his head and said, 'No way, coach,'".

"I have no reason not to believe Tajh Boyd,” Sweeney said. “He's never lied to me before. His character and integrity from my view are impeccable, so I'm going to take his word over some website that I've never heard of, ever."

The university is investigating the clams. The rumors originated from the Twitter account @Pregame_Steam, known for posting false information and being an alias account for notorious rumor kick starter "Incarcerated Bob".

Clemson is coming off a loss to Florida State and faces Maryland as a 14-point road favorite Saturday. Boyd heads into Week 9 as a +10,000 long shot to win the Heisman Trophy.

Well, now I believe him. After all, we are only allowed to bet on games we watch. Line jumped late 2 pts in 2 hrs before KO. Fix was in. Btw, I did not bet this game, so it's not sour grapes.

If 4 or 5 of the main dudes on a college football team wants to gamble their not going to do it betting the NFL, their going to bet against their own team when their a huge fav, like 2 weeks ago when clemson was a 24 1/2 point fav against lowly BC, simply dog dik around for 3 quarters then come storming back in the 4th for the easy win but no cover! ,,,,,,, this is especially easy in college basketball when you're a 28 point fav or such ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, not saying clemson cheated just saying if you wanted to cheat thats how they would do it.

Lets not kid ourselves. While it may be 100% true that this is a total lie and Boyd is an upstanding citizen, we can't deny what college and pro sports has turned in to today. Between fantasy football, the internet and gambling on the internet all sports from college level on up are now watched for different reasons. It is an epidemic no doubt. I am part of it. I can't watch one single game without action of some kind. I mean what is the fricking point. You think I care about a bunch of guys playing a sport? Nope. Just the action. I digress. Anyway it is sad this happened to Boyd but this will be happening from here on out. Some of it true and some of it not. Hopefully most of it not. But we will see.

Somewhere this bottom feeder is spitting up his Cheetos in his bedroom giggling that he actually got the Coach and Player to answer to this. Sure seems to be more people every day leading a pathetic existence. Same could be said for me wasting time on this story.
