Patriots' odds holding amidst Hernandez drama

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez may be in some serious legal trouble, but sportsbooks aren’t jumping to conclusions just yet.

The Patriots’ tight ends have been essential to their attack over the past few seasons, and with the health of primary weapon Rob Gronkowski in question, New England’s futures and early spreads could be on the move over the summer.

“As of right now we won't be adjusting the futures or the early spread on Week 1,” Michael Stewart, an oddsmaker for CarbonSports.ag, told Covers. “Knowing the Patriots organization, they will find one or more players to fill any void left at TE.”

The Patriots (6-1) opened as the favorites to win Super Bowl XLVIII and as seven-point road chalk in Buffalo for their season opener on September 8.

New England has always seen its share of action in the futures market during the Tom Brady era, but it isn’t drawing the ire of the public this spring.

“They’re (Patriots) currently not getting much love at 7-1,” says Stewart. “But that as we all know could change.”

Numerous media outlets are reporting that a homicide investigation is swirling around Hernandez but no arrest warrant has been issued as of Friday night.

Hernandez caught 51 passes for 483 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games last season for the Patriots.
