Check out our betting notes on all of Thursday’s NHL action:
Toronto Maple Leafs at Buffalo Sabres (-108, 5.5)Probable starting goaltenders: James Reimer (TOR), Ryan Miller (BUF)
The Sabres are sitting in last place in the Northeast Division thanks in large part to an offense that is setting franchise records for futility. Tuesday’s 3-2 win marked the record 15th consecutive game in which the team failed to score more than three goals. Toronto had the opposite problem, allowing an average of 4.1 goals in the nine games prior to Wednesday’s 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Maple Leafs F Joffrey Lupul is facing a two-game suspension after throwing a high hit on Victor Hedman last night. Toronto is 9-1 in its last 10 vs. a team with a losing record.
Montreal Canadiens at New York Islanders (+115, 105)
Probable starting goaltenders: Carey Price (MTL), Kevin Poulin (NYI)
The New York Islanders will attempt a season sweep of Montreal when they host the Canadiens on Thursday. New York posted a 4-3 road win in overtime on Feb. 21 and a 6-3 home triumph on March 5. Montreal has won four straight road games since losing to New York - its only regulation loss in the last 18 games (13-1-4). The over is 6-1 in the Canadiens’ last seven road games.
Florida Panthers at New York Rangers (-227, 5)Probable starting goaltenders: Jacob Markstrom (FLA), Henrik Lundqvist (NYR)
New York has won its last three meetings with Florida. The Panthers snapped an 0-5-1 winless streak by opening their season-high five-game road trip with a 4-1 triumph over Carolina on Tuesday. After playing on back-to-back nights, Henrik Lundqvist did not participate in Wednesday's optional practice. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner likely will be in net on Thursday despite admitting to headaches after taking an inadvertent elbow from teammate Dan Girardi. The Panthers are 0-5 in their last five games following a win.
New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes (-117, 5)Probable starting goaltenders: Martin Brodeur (NJ), Dan Ellis (CAR)
The New Jersey Devils are in dire need of a spark and they will get one when future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur returns to the lineup for Thursday's game at the Carolina Hurricanes. The NHL's all-time winningest goaltender, Brodeur missed the last 13 contests with a pinched nerve in his back and will be in net for the first time since Feb. 21. New Jersey is winless in its last three (0-2-1) and has won only three times (3-8-2) in Brodeur's absence. The Devils have scored only four goals in the last three games and the under is 5-0 in Carolina’s last five overall.
Boston Bruins at Ottawa Senators (+130, 5)Probable starting goaltenders: Anton Khudobin (BOS), Robin Lehner (OTT)
Boston loves playing in Ottawa, posting 11 consecutive wins at Scotiabank Place. The Bruins have gone the extra mile against the Senators in 2013 - posting a 2-1 overtime win on Feb. 28 and a 3-2 shootout victory on March 11. The Senators were dealt another injury blow Tuesday, when D Marc Methot suffered a knee sprain. He will not play tonight. The under is 6-0-1 in the Bruins’ last seven overall.Washington Capitals at Winnipeg Jets (-135, 5.5)
Probable starting goaltenders: Braden Holtby (WSH), Ondrej Pavelec (WPG)
The Capitals have dropped five of their last seven and totaled 13 goals in that span while falling into 14th place in the Eastern Conference. The Jets have been riding the opposite side of that wave, going 6-1-1 in their last eight. After being among the worst teams in the league on the penalty kill in the first six weeks, the Jets have killed off 34 of 36 penalties over their last 13 games. The under is 9-1 in Winnipeg’s last 10 home games.
Calgary Flames at Nashville Predators (-130, 5)
Probable starting goaltenders: Miikka Kiprusoff (CGY), Pekka Rinne (NSH)
The Predators return home from a dismal road trip for Thursday's contest against the Flames, who haven’t won on the road in seven games. Nashville opened its five-game trip with a 4-0 win over Dallas but allowed 20 goals en route to dropping the next four contests. The Flames, who are 0-6-1 away from Calgary since posting a 4-3 win over the Stars on Feb. 17, have surrendered at least three goals in each of their last five road contests. The over is 4-1 in the Flames’ last five overall.
Vancouver Canucks at Phoenix Coyotes (+100, 5)
Probable starting goaltenders: Cory Schneider (VAN), Mike Smith (PHX)
The Coyotes were blanked in four consecutive away games before captain Shane Doan scored twice in the third period at Los Angeles on Tuesday. Phoenix has fared much better at home, scoring 52 of its 79 goals at Jobing.com Arena while amassing a 10-5-1 record. The Coyotes defeated the Canucks 4-2 in Vancouver on Feb. 26 - their last road win. The over is 5-1 in Phoenix’s last six home games.
Dallas Stars at Los Angeles Kings (-191, 5)
Probable starting goaltenders: Kari Lehtonen (DAL), Jonathan Quick (LAK)
The Kings shoot for their sixth consecutive home victory when they host the Pacific Division-rival Dallas Son Thursday. Los Angeles has won 11 of its last 12 games at the Staples Center, but the road team has won four straight games and five of six in the all-time series. The over is 8-2-1 in the Kings’ last 11 overall.
