CFL preview: B.C. Lions at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

British Columbia at Winnipeg Blue Bombers (+5.5, 49)

THE MATCHUP:
The Lions beat the Blue Bombers 33-16 in the first game of the season and easily covered the 8-point spread. B.C. now comes in on a three-game winning streak while Winnipeg has been just plain streaky lately.

THE LINE: The way B.C. has been playing, don't be surprised if this line moves up from 5.5 points as game time approaches. The total has dropped a point to 49, which means bettors have noticed the way the Lions' defense is performing.

B.C.: The Lions offense is fun to watch but it's the defense that has stolen the show lately. The D has now gone over 180 minutes without allowing a touchdown - the main reason B.C. has won and covered in its last three games. The Lions have also played under the total in their past five games. The team leads the league with +8 turnover margin and intercepted Saskatchewan three times last week. Meanwhile, the offense is averaging over 400 yards a game.

WINNIPEG: It's a little disturbing just how bad the Bombers defense has gotten compared to last year's 'Swaggerville' performance. Their numbers are pretty close to Hamilton's - the worst defensive team in the league - with 437 yards against per game. They have the most giveaways of any team with 20 this season, a terrible number heading in against a team like B.C. There may be some hope on offense suddenly, though. QB Joey Elliott earned CFL player of the week honors in his first CFL start last week.

BETTING NOTES:
Under is 10-1 in Lions last 11 road games.
Under is 12-3 in the last 15 meetings.
Blue Bombers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as a home underdog of 3.5-10.0.
Blue Bombers are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win.
Blue Bombers are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win.

Last night was looking like a horror story in the FH. And I got skunked on my original CFL card for -6.4 units and a deuce on mixed sport parlays. Losing my main play of OVER 60.5 by the lousy bloody &$@# hook............pricks. Fortunately it was a tale of two halves and I went 3-0 on my SH plays for+6.05 units to limit the damage somewhat. For tonights game I'm with the majority in here and just about everywhere else (which is a lil worrisome I'll admit) and on the Leos and the Under. Joey E got the job done last week but before we crown him the new A.C lets see him do it for a whole two games first and tonight against a ferocious defense that now has a some film on him to breakdown, albeit with a very small sample size of 1 game................................................................................................................................ And unfamiliarity may be the one of only angles Elliot has going for him tonight with B.C dominating their opponents right now. I'm not gonna get into a ton of stats, I think we all know the Lions D has held the opposing offenses to single digits over in each of their L3 games for a total of 22 points and IMHO are playing as well as any defense I've seen over a 3 game period for in the last 5 or so years. And not much to say about Elliot since we haven't seen a ton from him so I'm just gonna go with the better, hotter and more experienced team tonight and ride the trend rather than try and buck it. I see the Leos jumping out early and staying there, maybe a late garbagio time t.d makes it look a lil closer than it really was.....BC wins 27-18

Randall the Handle is one of the worst cappers I've ever come across. He is definitely fade material, trust me. Going with the Lions D and the Under again.

He doesnt cap CFL games, of course, so the point is moot. (If you didnt know, Handle is part of the team that sets Vegas CFL lines, and therefore cannot comment on them)

Having followed the CFL for years, have never seen a D do what the Lions D is doing over the last 3 games, allowing only single digits in those 3 games, incredible.........A tremendous front four that no one can block+good LB core and a very good secondary that gets turnovers. It's going to be the ultimate test for the bombers, they've been better lately, but BC should win fairly easy. BC 24 Wpg 9

You guys are right about the spread in the B.C./Winn. game. Something smells like tuna, Tina....... Win or Lose, B.C. is the correct play. After Montreal didn't cover last night, I still have one plum left and I'll double up on B.C. and let the chips fall where they may. GLTA.

Yukon, I kind of thought the same thing when I saw this spread. I dunno. CFL is crazy sometimes and the game is in Winny, but B.C. is so tough right now.

Hey Jon ... yeah, it is a weird one, and Randall the Handle (who sets the lines) must know something we dont. You're right, crazy league, and maybe a let down spot for BC??? Good luck!

Honestly, I just don't know how Randall the Handle and his henchmen came up with this spread. It's so ludicrous that you almost have to take the Bombers lol Like, this spread is so low, I have to ask myself, am I missing something??? It's the CFL, and wacky shit happens all the time. On paper, this would seem to be a complete blow-out. Hell, the Lions havent even given up a TD in THREE+ games fer crissakes. And the Bombers have little rookie Elliot tossin the piggy against THIS dominant D? Get real. Not to mention Lulay should slice and dice the Bombers very questionable D. If any game screams blowout, this is it. YET the spread is 5.5, which, like I said, I just don't get. The ONLY thing I can think of is that maybe this will be a let-down game for BC? I dunno. The whole point of gambling is to put your money down on the team with the tools, schemes and stats to cripple the other team. That team HAS to be the Lions. Can the Bombers cover or even win? Sure, that's why they play the games. But put your money down, a priori, on the far better team. That's what I am doing. BC 38, Win 13
