Ice picks: Tuesday's best NHL bets

Florida Panthers at Columbus Blue Jackets (-160, 5) odds provided by logans

Not that it’s overly shocking or anything, but the Columbus Blue Jackets are probably going to miss the playoffs again this year after showing a little bit of fight earlier in the year.

What is surprising is just how bad the club’s power play is. Columbus hasn’t scored in its last 30 chances with the man advantage, a slump that stretches over nine games. The Jackets have won just twice over that spell and have scored one or fewer goals in four of their last six games.

Captain Rick Nash remains the team’s only consistent offensive threat, leading the team with 66 points.

They actually battled pretty well in a 4-1 loss to Vancouver on Sunday, the club’s sixth straight defeat, but at this point of the year, production is all that matters.

"We did everything possible to generate offense,” coach Scott Arniel told reporters. “We're not scoring enough, and it's in our heads, and it's been going on for a few games now. The same pucks aren't going in like they were earlier in the season."

That’s true, but everything goes in against Florida. We’ll take a shot with Arniel’s bunch.

Pick: Blue Jackets

Dallas Stars at Phoenix Coyotes (-145, 5) odds provided by logans

You have to hand it to the Stars – nobody even expected them to be anywhere near a playoff spot at the beginning of the season – but as the campaign has worn on, their lack of depth is catching up with them.

Dallas has just one win in its last six games and now sits in 10th spot in the Western Conference. The team has a tough road ahead too, with six of its last eight games on the road after dropping a 4-2 decision at Nashville over the weekend.

“The battle level of the group, the care, it's there,” Brad Richards told reporters. “But sometimes the execution … overtrying, whatever it is … we still know that this is a huge road trip, a huge part of the season, and we'll keep battling."

The Stars have a shot at getting back on the right track against Phoenix, which could be missing three centers for this matchup, but it’s probably better to just jump on the under.

Pick: Under

There's a BIG GAME in town tonight as the Sabres visit the Leafs! Learned long ago to lay off wagering on the home team - but I'm hoping the Leafs keep this improbable run going a while longer. Reimer has been outstanding. Can he do it again tonight???

Hey Tommy, yeah the Habs have been shutout in 3 games straight and I lean towards the UNDER 5.5, but am not betting it. Some good supporting statistics on both goalies for the Under with Pavelec going 2-0-0 with a 1.46 GAA and .960 Save% in 2 starts against the Habs this season...........AND then Price has a 1-0-1 record with a 2.42 GAA and .928 Save% in 2 starts against the Thrashers this year....Good Luck and I agree on the Pens/Flyers being close again tonight just like last week.

Nice to start out the week with a winning night. Just missed the 5-0 sweep for the second time in a few days thanx to a last minute garbage goal. Still I was 1-1 for a push on the ice but manged a 3-0 +3.8 unit night in hoops so I'll take it. For tonight I'm going right back to the well with the U 5.5 -135 in the CAPS games. No need for any reasoning on that. Then play number two will involve the SENS just not sure about ML or PL+1.5 to the U 5.5. In pro hoops nothing jumping out at me for a S.U play but I do like a 3 game FH ML play of HEAT to OCK to HOU for about +120. In CBB I'll most likely play WICH ST -2.5 S.U then BAMA ML to the O 143.5

Good afternoon hockey nuts, yesterday I went 2-0 for +2.04 units to start off the new week. Today I am back on two unders that have been getting me closer to Even $ on the season...........The Penguins are 12-25-2 at home with their Over/Under/Push record, so more then twice as many games have gone Under then Over at home for the Penguins. Some other recent trends are......The Under is 13-3-1 in the Pens' last 17 home games and The Under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Pittsburgh between the PA rivals. And then the 3 most recent meetings this season have all gone Under with scores of 3-2, 3-2, and then 2-1 in a Shootout just last week and tonight I expect the same............................. Washington has faced Carolina 5 times THIS season and ALL 5 GAMES have gone UNDER. On top of the head to head Unders, you also have the great trends on the Caps going Under..........Under is 44-10-1 in the Capitals' last 55 overall......The Under is 20-5-1 in the Caps' last 26 home games. Ovechkin practived yesterday in a non-contact jesey but I believe he is still resting all week and regardless of him playing or not, I am riding this bet again tonight.............................I also would keep riding the Canucks, BUT the Predators have beaten the Canucks twice already in 2011 and I think they can do it again at home. And the Preds come into the game on a 6 game winning streak scoring 3 or more goals in those 6 wins(3 of them with 4 goals, 1 game they scored 5). I am laying off of that game and as of now, just these 2 plays................UNDER 5.5 (-140) PENGUINS vs Flyers, to win 1 unit.......................UNDER 5.5 (-130) CAPITALS vs Hurricanes, to win 1 unit.............Good Luck to everyone!

PHIL-PITT has shootout possibilities. Both teams have been playing a ton of them recently and this Pennsylvania match-up should be a close, hard fought game. Extra shots to decide it.

Gimme a break, Florida at Columbus? 2 teams riding out the string, think there are way better games to profile on Tuesday. Liking Nashville at home against a banged up Canucks 'D', though the Nucks could clinch the West I don't think it happens in music city against a Preds team hungry to solidify a playoff berth. Also on the ML with the Canes, Habs, Bruins, Kings, Blues and Dallas; Canes-Caps under 5. GL to all.
