Philadelphia Phillies at New York Yankees
Phillies lead series 1-0
Line/Total: Opened Yanks -182 and 9 under (-120). This morning, got sharp play on Yanks (-182), so moved game to the current number of -200. Total still unchanged at 9 (under -120). Book is rooting for Yankees tonight, as almost 45 percent of the cumulative action on the side is backing the Phillies. Also, a big decision on the total, as 80 percent of action here is backing the Over.
Injury Report: None
Comments: The Phillies regained home-field advantage after Cliff Lee continued his playoff dominance in New York Wednesday. Phillies now send 38-year-old Pedro Martinez to face the Yankees. One reason that Philly manager Charlie Manual didn’t use Cole Hamels here is that left-handed hitters had nine hits in 15 at bats, including three home runs. With the short porch in right at the new Yankee Stadium, that’s why Manual is going with Martinez, who won’t be phased by the big game atmosphere.
Prop of Game: Derek Jeter (Yankees) Will He Record a RBI: No (-145)
San Antonio Spurs (1-0 SU and ATS) at Chicago Bulls (0-0)
Line/Total: We opened the Spurs at -3.5, but have seen some decent sharp action on the dog in this one and are currently using Spurs -2.5. We've definitely booked more money on the favorite, with about 80 percent of the action on the favorite. I believe we'll be going to Spurs -3 later today.
As for the total, we opened 194 and the initial action was on the under and we've since gone to 193. Since going to 193, we've seen some over action and, at this moment, we've booked even action on both the under and over.
Key Injuries: Spurs - PG Tony Parker (side) left last game and is listed Probable tonight.
Bulls - PG's Derrick Rose (ankle) and Kirk Hinrich (elbow) are both listed Probable. G Jannero Pargo (back) is listed Questionable. C Jerome James (achilles) is out indefinitely. C Aaron Gray (fibula) out 6-8 weeks.
Comments: Spurs took care of New Orleans 113-96 in their home opener. They got a scare though when PG Tony Parker took a hard fall in the third quarter and didn’t return. The Bulls lost Ben Gordon and his 20 points per game to the Pistons via free agency. The Bulls drafted two forwards James Johnson from Georgia Tech and Taj Gibson from USC in the first round of this year's draft, Chicago's biggest free agent signing was PG Jannero Pargo from the Hornets. Pargo averaged eight points and two assist per game last season. The Spurs won and covered both games vs. the Bulls in their two game series. Both games went under the closing total.
Prop of Game: Tim Duncan (Spurs) Total Rebounds - 11.5 (un-130)
Denver Nuggets (1-0 SU and ATS) at Portland Trailblazers (1-0 SU and ATS)
Line/Total: Blazers opened as 7-point favorites over the Nuggets, but we booked early sharp money on the favorite in this one and went directly to Blazers -8. With the Nuggets playing last night and having to travel, I believe the sharp action is fading the road team in this because it is a tough scheduling spot for the Nuggets. The early action is supporting the Nuggets, with over 80 percent of the early action on the dog.
As for the total, we opened 198.5 and with all the early action on the over, we've gone to 200. Nearly 85 percent of the early action is on the over.
Key Injuries: Nuggets - G J.R. Smith and F Renaldo Balkman are both out because of suspension.
Blazers - F Nicolas Batum (shoulder) and G Patrick Mills (foot) are both out indefinitely. F Jeff Pendergraph (hip) is out til December.
Comments: Both teams looked good in their opening games at home. The Nuggets beat Jazz, as Carmelo Anthony was his normal impressive self, putting up 30 points. What may have surprised some bettors was the play of rookie point guard Ty Lawson, who scored 17 points and dished out seven assists.
Portland is stacked with talent. Travis Outlaw was the Blazers’ leading scorer Tuesday, putting up 23 points off the bench in their win over Houston. The home team dominated this series last year, with the home team winning and covering every game. The average margin of victory in those four games was 15.75 points per game. The under was 4-0 last year.
Prop of Game: Brandon Roy (Blazers) Total Points in the 1st Quarter - 4.5 (o-130)
