The Minnesota Vikings placed WR Percy Harvin on injured reserve Wednesday, abruptly ending a season that began so promising for one of the NFL's most versatile players.

“It’s clear to see that the offensive output has dropped with him out,” says Aron Black, oddsmaker for bet365.com. “It shows how much he meant to QB Christian Ponder.”

Harvin suffered a sprained ankle in Week 9 against the Seahawks and has missed the last three games. Minnesota is 1-2 SU and ATS without its biggest offensive threat in the lineup.

“The stats show the team’s average pass yards has dropped almost 2 yards per catch since he has been out,” notes Black. “It’s a definite big loss.”

Black figures Harvin, who also returned kicks for the Vikings, is worth 1.5 to 2 points to the spread. And the line is currently holding at Chicago -3 at Black’s book for Sunday’s NFC North clash in Minnesota. The Vikings have a tough closing schedule, squaring off against St. Louis, Houston and Green Bay. Black anticipates they will be dogs in each of those games.

The Vikings, who stormed out of the gates with a 4-1 SU record to begin the season, had 100/1 odds at the LVH to win the Super Bowl prior to Week 9 and are currently 400/1 to win it all at bet365.com.
