Alabama, Notre Dame maintain hold atop BCS odds

Nov 25, 2012 |
Alabama still has some heavy lifting to do before getting to the BCS Championship Game, but the early odds are in and, as expected, the Crimson Tide are favored to win it all.

Thegreek.com, based in Jamaica, has listed Alabama as a solid -175 favorite to both get past Georgia in the SEC title game and then defeat Notre Dame to win the college football title for the second consecutive season and third time in four years.

Notre Dame, which sits atop all the polls and earned a spot in the BCS championship game with its victory over USC on Saturday night, is at +200, which almost certainly means that the Irish would be a significant underdog if the Tide and ND meet on Jan. 7 in Miami.

Value bettors might find a meal ticket in Georgia. The 11-1 Bulldogs, who took control of the SEC East with a mid-season victory over Florida, have barely broken a sweat over the last month. Thegreek has the Bulldogs at +500, but if they can find a way past Alabama, they should be close to a pick against the Irish in what would be a national championship matchup that no one saw coming.

The Greek also lists some outliers for those who don’t trust the BCS computers to place the Alabama-Georgia winner in the championship game and have money they don’t need. Oregon is at +1200, Kansas State +2000, Florida +3000, Florida State +4000 and Clemson +10000.
