Four NFL betting trends to consider Sunday

Sep 15, 2012 |
Past trends can sometimes serve as an accurate predictor of the future in the NFL.

Here are four betting trends to consider before placing wagers this Sunday:

Oakland Raiders at Miami Dolphins (1, 38.5)

The Raiders are road favorites for the first time since 2005, when oddsmakers favored them against the New York Jets in Week 14. Bettors beware: Oakland is just 3-16-1 ATS (against the spread) in its last 20 games as a favorite.

Tennessee Titans at San Chargers Chargers (-6.5, 43)

The Chargers are a perfect 8-0 straight-up against the Titans since 1998. San Diego has also covered the spread in the last six meetings.

Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers (-7, 46.5)

Detroit tries to seek to snap an 11-game losing streak in San Francisco that started in 1977 and includes a playoff loss in 1983. In the last 10 regular season meetings in San Francisco between the teams there hasn’t been an over play.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Giants (44, -7)

The Giants are listed as 7-point favorites over the the Buccaneers Sunday. But the real focus for potential bettors should be the total. The under is 11-0-1 in the last 12 meetings between the clubs.
