Purdue becomes bowl eligible with win over Indiana

Purdue quarterback David Blough threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Rondale Moore, to propel Purdue to a 28-21 victory over Indiana in Bloomington, Ind.

Moore, a flashy freshman, caught 12 passes for 141 yards. Blough completed 27 of 35 passes.

The Boilermakers became bowl eligible with a 6-6 record, 5-4 in Big Ten play. Indiana University concludes with a 5-7 record, 2-7 in Big Ten. IU dropped six of its last seven games.

Purdue has captured two consecutive victories in a row over its in-state rivals. Purdue leads the all-time series with Indiana 74-41-6. The teams began playing for Old Oaken Bucket series in 1925 and Purdue leads 60-31-3.

Trailing 21-7, IU quarterback Peyton Ramsey scored on a 23-yard run with 7:33 to go in the fourth quarter to close the deficit to seven points. Ramsey completed all six passes on the drive.

The Boilermakers answered with a 32-yard TD run by Markell Jones to increase the lead to 28-14 with 3:48 remaining in the fourth quarter. Jones rushed for 95 yards on 11 carries for Purdue.

Navon Mosley intercepted Ramsey's pass with 3:04 left. After forcing Purdue to punt, IU got the football back and scored on a 40-yard pass from Ramsey to Nick Westbrook with 1:17 left. However, IU failed to convert the onside kick.

Freshman Stevie Scott led the Hoosiers with 104 yards on 20 carries. Ramsey completed 36 of 51 passes for 345 yards. Donovan Hale contributed 10 catches for 81 yards for IU. Westbrook had eight catches for 125 yards.

The Boilermakers took a 14-7 lead into halftime. Purdue pushed the lead to 21-7 on Moore's 33-yard TD reception with 3:43 left in the third quarter.

Purdue took a 7-0 lead when Isaac Zico caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Blough with 5:43 left in the first quarter. That capped a 12-play, 85-yard drive.

The Hoosiers drove to Purdue 36 but the drive stalled with three incomplete passes and Purdue took over on downs.

Indiana tied at 7-all on an 8-yard touchdown run by Scott on a fourth-and-1 play. Scott had six carries for 37 yards on the 87-yard drive.

The Boilermakers attempted to pick up a fourth-and-1 from the Indiana 9, but D.J. Knox was tackled for a 1-yard loss.

But on Purdue's next possession, Blough connected with Moore for a 56-yard TD pass with 4:30 remaining in the second quarter.

IU kicker Logan Justus missed a 47-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
