BOSTON -- Nyheim Hines, playing with a sore ankle, ran 50 yards for a touchdown with 8:22 left and No. 23 North Carolina State ended its two-game losing streak with a 17-14 victory over Boston College on Saturday.

The Eagles (5-5, 3-4 ACC) had their three-game winning streak snapped.

The Wolfpack (7-3, 5-1) moved to midfield on a 25-yard run by Jaylen Samuels and then, two plays later, Hines broke the winner down the right sideline.

The touchdown allowed N.C. State to overcome three missed field goals in four attempts by Kyle Bambard, who did kick a 41-yarder at the end of the first half after the Wolfpack blocked a punt after turning the ball over.

It also allowed the visitors to win despite 196 yards rushing, including a 66-yard touchdown romp, by Boston College's AJ Dillon, who cleared the 1,000-yard mark and broke the Eagles' freshman rushing record. Dillon actually reached 200 but lost four yards on the last of his 36 carries.

The Eagles, who lost quarterback Anthony Brown to an apparent right knee injury that left him on crutches in the first half, had a chance to tie their Senior Day game late. But a bad snap on what would have been a 40-yard field goal attempt killed the chance with 4:15 remaining.

Hines finished with 110 yards on 19 carries and Samuels scored his 44th career touchdown on an 8-yard run. Wide receiver Thadd Smith rushed for 12 yards and BC's other score.

Darius Wade replaced Brown and was 8 of 15 for 82 yards and he also lost a fumble. N.C. State's Ryan Finley was just 13 of 32 for 140 yards and an interception.

Brown was injured at the end of a 7-yard run that brought the ball to the State 13, but the Eagles failed to finish the drive.

Bradley Chubb had 2 1/2 sacks, allowing him to pass Mario Williams and become N.C. State's career sacks leader with 26. He is also a half tackle off Williams' school mark of 55.5 tackles for loss.
