Statistically speaking, very few US soldiers were in Afghanistan and Iraq in comparison to other wars like Vietnam and Korea.
Hell, In WWII, if we lost 4400 in one week that was considered an excellent week. Yet combined, and in a much longer time period we've lost roughly 5,500 total in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Statistically speaking I think that's a great improvement given the parameters.
I also think that our strategy sucked in Iraq from the beginning. It took much longer than necessary to win the hearts and minds of the citizens then it should have because of the tactics used to find insurgents and weapons. Those tactics created more enemies IMO.

This thread is full of hypocritical partisan idiots who pick and choose who to vent their anger on by party affiliation...
And you guys wonder why nobody takes you serious?
You all should start a circus, you guys would be a huge hit
Has nothing to do with partisanship. I hated Johnson for escalating the war in Vietnam & not getting out for fear of looking weak. I think it's pretty clear that they were looking for & cherry picked intel that they they could use to make their case regardless of other intel to the contrary & also used suspect sources which were known to be unreliable.
The only partisanship I see with it comes mostly from repubs who can't seem to acknowledge the truth or even want to try to see it for what it was & understand it.

I am kind of mad that Rumsfeld did not make the list.
The word war criminal has been overused and obfuscated.
There is a long list of people who's dishonesty/ false testimony / outright Lies have bordered on treason. Just as sandy hook was used in an attempt to further an agenda. 9/11 was used in an attempt to further neocon agendas.

-Bush
-Powell
-Rice

I know how this guy feels (not personally), but have witnessed this war destroy good men physically and mentally.
I agree that Rumsfeld should be on the list... we talked about this on the other thread with rumsfeld and the whole aspartame thing... seems like only you and I know the real history

Rummy and Cheney.....Bush is just plain LOST......by far the least intelligent POTUS in modern history. This country is sooooooo fu#####ed it is scary!
I am glad I lived when I did...because the future looks bleak :-(
Why anyone would want to enlist anymore is just beyond me.....
I quit believing in this Govt when LBJ invented the Tonkin gulf.....those shots fired on NOV 22nd 63 still ring out today!
dont just pick on the right side side of the aisle....there is more than enough graft and corruption on both sides to sink this country
grrrrrrrrr
bring all those troops home.....let the MIddle East destroy themselves..... the Saudis..what a joke....no wonder most hate us around the world!!!! why would Israel trust us....majority of the people in the USA dont trust their own govt!!!!
I think some of the not trusting government and GOP leadership is what the person writing the letter is saying...
Although I personally I agree with your statement about GW bush appearing to be the the least intelligent... but I guess its hard to prove that as we cant go back to the 19th and 18th centuries or even the early 20th... but in our lifetime, I think it would be hard to argue

War criminals, pure & simple. Should be behind bars & they know it. They knowingly packaged a fraudulent case for bombing & invasion with little to no exit strategy.
It's amazing & sad how many repubs still defend &/or need to defend these guys in regards to Iraq.
It really is sad...
and you see them on here...
the Really Sad Ones... that try so hard and put so much effort...
Its simply a difference in character... there are those that believe in responsibility and accountability and those that look for excuses to "bail them out"...

We are going to go round and round not swaying each other but I'm sticking to my guns.
Point #1: Bush must have been a prophet. It was written "there was no evidence al qaeda was in Iraq and no evidence al-zarqawi was a member" and yet when we went in he was there and he was a member of al qaeda by the time he was killed.
Point #2: Iraq seeking uranium wasn't true and Bush knew it wasn't true. How can it be proven Bush knew it was false?
Point #3: By the IAEA stating said aluminum tubes were unsuitable for nuclear weapons production proves Hussein was trying to implement a nuclear weapons program. He just didn't have the right equipment.
Either the CIA, military intelligence, NSA, or some other organizations gave the President bad info or he was just making it up. How can it be proven the info was bad or he was making it up?

If those reasons weren't good enough why wasn't that shouted beforehand? Why wasn't "That's lies" shouted beforehand? The Monday morning quarterbacking, 20/20 hindsight is what p*sses me off.

Where am I going wrong?
Because a lot of the facts didn't come out until well after Bush and Cheney had their game plan in motion. They had everybody convinced Saddam was a nuclear threat and had amassed stockpiles of WMD's. The inspectors were saying otherwise but looking at the CIA for verification. The CIA was saying otherwise too but looking at other Foreign Intelligence for verification. Then Great Britain jumps on board because BP Oil is late to the party and Tony Blair didn't want BP to get locked out of the post war bonanza. Tony Blair is every bit as guilty as Bush & Cheney.

While I do not take lightly this soldier's tragic story and the grief that has followed him from his service to our nation,
it's important to note that average military personnel (aka grunts) are not always apprised of all the facts. Neither are we as civilians. He states that his sorrow stems from fighting for a lie. Well, most every war is fought at some point or another for lies. Lies told to our enemies, lies told to our citizens. The public face of war is always a lie, because the reality of war is an ugly truth few have the stomach to face.
Take America for instance. The home of the "PARTICIPANT" ribbon.
PARTICIPANT
We've got parents in this country with the ability to vote who are so weak-minded they can't even bring themselves to explain to their children why their failures aren't met with celebration, and we're going to trust these people to understandWAR?
They can't even effectively weigh the cost of an unhappy toddler, but we're going to trust them to effectively weigh the cost of death?
No gentlemen. We're not. Because as a leader, while it's your job to trust the right people and keep them in the loop, it's also your job to keep the weak-minded idiots out of the loop so they don't fukk everything up.
Remember that kid on your t-ball team who whiffed with every swing and let every ball get past him? Try as he might, the kid was just too unathletic to play. But that didn't stop him from trying. And it didn't stop your coach from having to play him a certain number of innings to comply with the rules. And so it didn't stop the kid from being on the field during a key moment and screwing it all up and costing you the game. Some people just aren't cut out to be ballplayers. And some people just aren't cut out to understand armed conflict. And so our leaders lie about it. Endlessly. They sell us rose-colored stories to us to rally around the flag and support the cause, because that's their job. It's their job to do the heavy lifting. And to spare us from the pain of it. That's what they signed up for. To make the difficult decisions so that we don't have to. Because we're having enough trouble trying manage our toddlers' self-esteem. And we don't have the guts to sit down and write a letter to the parents of a young man who lost his life in battle. It's hard enough to write that letter as it is. It's that much harder when you've got a nation of fifty million former t-ball whiffers speaking out as if they understand how the game is played or what's at stake.
There will always be critics of war. And some are justified. Bush is not without fault for how he handled Iraq. There are those who hate him. Those who think he's a callous and evil man who recklessly sent men off to their slaughter without remorse. Those who mock his intelligence. At the same time they praise Obama's. They honor his talk of "peace" with a prize. But Woodrow Wilson had a PHD. And he was a pacifist too. A Democrat. A liberal. The godfather of progressivism. And he took America to war for far less provocation than 9/11. And he did so by drumming up propaganda. Because that's how you sell a war to the public. And you've got to sell a war before you can fight. Just like Bush. Just like Kennedy. Just like LBJ.

Eisenhower warned Kennedy about Laos and Vietnam, Europe and Latin America "loomed larger than Asia on his sights."
In his inaugural address, Kennedy made the ambitious pledge to "pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and success of liberty."
Democrats or Republicans, it doesn't matter. They will lie to you about war. The only difference is that they choose different lies. Republicans lie in the hopes you'll respect the fight. Democrats lie in the hopes you'll forget it's taking place. This is why we don't remember JFK or LBJ for Vietnam even though they started it, but we remember Nixon for it even though he ended it.
There's an idea among pacifists that some people are somehow "pro" war. It's a convenient excuse to justify their cowardice. Because no one is pro war. No one wants to die in battle. No one want to send their kids of to die in battle. Some people are just born with more courage. The courage to accept the ugly truths of world the mothers handing out Participant Ribbons don't have the nerve to face.
So Bush trumped up evidence about WMDs. Woodrow Wilson trumped up evidence about the Zimmerman telegraph. JFK trumped up evidence over the commie threat. LBJ trumped up all sorts of lies in the gulf of Tonkin. Presidents lie about war. That's their job. But Bush wasn't the only one who lied about WMDs. Plenty in congress did as well. America may have acted "unilaterally" in Iraq, but Bush did not act unilaterally in taking America into Iraq. 29 Democrats in the Senate voted for war. More than opposed. Bob Graham, chairman of the Senate Intelligence committee, and a Democrat, voted NO. He believed the intelligence on WMDs was flawed. But did he share his opinions? Was he convinced enough to convince other senators to resist? Did he have the courage to stand up and publicly fight the lie being told?
NOPE.
His parents must have rewarded him with Participant Ribbons.
Some years after the fact, and only after the war effort started going badly, only with the Democratic Party's seething resentment for Bush boiling over following the election with Al Gore, only then did Mr. Graham come out and tell us all what he was thinking. Why not earlier?
Because earlier wouldn't have been politically expedient.
America didn't go to war with Saddam because we fell for a lie about WMDs. We didn't go to war in Iraq because of President Bush. We went to war because the people who fight our wars felt it was necessary. And when the people who will be most in harms way come and tell you that war is necessary, then war is fought. Because no one else will be closer to the action, no one else will be risking more, and no else better understands when and why war must be fought. The lies that come with this fight are merely their way of sheltering the public from the horror of it all. Horrors even the most well trained of men struggle to survive. Horrors even the bravest of us all fear to meet again. Horrors they know all too well, and only face so that we might never have to.
A man who dies for a lie doesn't die in vain if that lie was told to protect the same cause he went off to defend.

The U.S. Military fights to protect the cause of America. It always has and always will. Doesn't matter which party hold the White House. Democrat, Republican. Wilson, LBJ, Bush. Doesn't matter. Because the President never starts a war. The Pentagon does. Because it's never been a President's job to fight a war, it's only his job to sell it. Military men start wars. And they and their soldiers fight them. Because that's their job. To fight when a fight is needed. To walk through hell when it's the only path back to heaven. The President's job is simply to keep the rest of us from looking up an realizing where we are.
Disgruntled Vets like Tomas Young don't hate Bush because they were lied to; they hate Bush because they didn't know enough to expect it. They hate Bush because it's easier to create a villain than to understand the truth. They hate Bush because they were raised by parents who celebrated their participation the same as achievement. They hate Bush because their concept of "America" is different than the reality. They hate Bush because they don't understand war. They hate Bush because it's easier to hate the lie of one man than the lie of a hundred. They hate Bush because some kids just aren't cut out to hit the ball off the tie. And when they grow up, they aren't cut out to understand armed conflict. No matter how easy John Wayne and Rambo make it seem.

If those reasons weren't good enough why wasn't that shouted beforehand? Why wasn't "That's lies" shouted beforehand? The Monday morning quarterbacking, 20/20 hindsight is what p*sses me off.

Never said you weren't entitled to your opinion and I bought into the bullshit when the invasion happened but my point your just as bad like the Obamanoid sheep.

It is my belief that the biggest reason Republicans may rarely win the White House is because of the actions of Bush/Cheney. Americans just don't trust Republicans to control the military.
Cano, I usually respect what you say, but here you are way off base. To defend these hooligans is deplorable.
