Arkansas is one of the 10 most talented teams in the country. Not even JL Smith can prevent this group from giving Alabama a serious run for their money. A 3 TD spread is just ludicrous. Unbelievable, actually. But there will be those who will bet the Tide. Yes there will.
Arkansas is not even close to being one of the 10 most talented teams in the country . . . maybe the top 30.

If the line before last week would have been in the single digits - probably even closer to a PK - and Im going to get 21 because Arky laid an egg in their opener? Please. Could you have a bigger media focus on these teams last week because there were no real big games, Ark was the biggest upset - and bama is bama - every average joe out there thinks "arkansas sucks because they lost at home to LaMon".
I agree with most of this.
I've been waiting since August to "Max Bet" this game in hopes of snagging Alabama around -7. Of course two huge unforeseen developments occurred last week that killed the goose that was about to lay the golden egg. I agree that if the line jumped from an expected -7 to -20.5 strictly off of the upset loss to ULM, that would be a overreaction of monumental proportions.
Unfortunately for Arkansas, losing to ULM was by far not the worst thing that happened to them last Saturday. The most devastating thing that happened, and the thing primarily responsible for sending the line into a tizzy, is the Tyler Wilson concussion.
Arkansas was going to lose this game by 3 touchdowns with a healthy Tyler Wilson anyhow, but without him Arkansas probably won't score. And if they don't score, they'll lose this game by 4-5 TDs.
As far as Arkansas being a contender for a SEC West championship or a national championship, they never had a realistic shot of competing for either anyhow. That's fools gold. As I have been saying dating back to last season, until Arkansas can compete with Alabama and LSU in the trenches, they will get destroyed by both teams again just as they did last season, and changing the venue will make no difference whatsoever. It doesn't matter if Tyler Wilson is healthy or not. It doesn't matter who the coach is. Arkansas vs. Alabama or LSU in the trenches is a mismatch of epic proportions. Arkansas couldn't even handle ULM in the trenches for crying out loud. Just imagine the carnage that will result when they have to face a NFL caliber front.
The same reason Arkansas cannot compete with Alabama and LSU (inferiority in the trenches and lack of depth) is the exact same reason why USC won't be able to do it either. Anyone who thinks USC can compete with either of these two teams in a national championship game, should it come to fruition, is fooling themselves.
The bottom line is that if Tyler Wilson doesn't play, and my guess is he won't, -20.5 will be one of the easiest bets on the board this week.

so, if bama were playing them at home, you'd put the line -27 ish? Remember this is a team that converted 4 of 10 3rd downs and made 17 1st downs v. W KY. I guess I'm asking what you think the true line should be.

Always must read with your picks for me van....I agree that Arky is the play...21pts is a gift and huge overcorrection....but needed to keep the squares hesitant on Bama'
Also love USC...big revenge spot and chance to really show off what they have. Barkley is still somehow a little under the radar IMO and just keeps getting better.
Only one I am shaky on is Houston, as I hate taking poor teams on the road...

i was tyhe same way. arkansas was an autoplay as soon as that line came out. i couldn't avoid it if i tried. i like houston as well for similar reasons although the arkansas game is in a class of its own. tennessee is getting a lot of love. have they turned the corner?

Sorry - didnt mean to ignore your question earlier in the thread...
Really - for me it comes down to Florida being able to stop the TN offense, and the fact that I dont think FL can throw when they need to.
I cant see FL hanging in this game without playing from behind - and I just dont see the FL passing attack being able to do anything this season.
Sorry for the short answer- buckled in to these games - but thats what it boils down to...
Hey I understand how it goes when you have a bunch of games going on. Interesting you say you had your line -7, I had it at 6. Im on the vols as well. Good luck van.
