I was always wondering how much trades have an impact on differing team performance. That and the addition of new coaches. All those long term trends that go back years or even months don't matter too much when teams are shuffling and rearranging team dynamic through coaching changes and big team trades. That said I had higher hopes for Ottawa after the Duchene deal but it seems to have brought more stink than anything. Gallant has made Vegas a home team money machine.

Nothing to discuss, all factual and on point but sheep don't see well so save your energy. I just want the maple leafs to trade mitch marner to the flyers for radko gudas

I would agree Montreal has made some bonehead moves...same with Ottawa and the Turris/Duchene trade.
But I would argue your logic with the timing of the Edmonton moves. Edmonton went from non-playoff team to game 7 of the 2nd round of the playoffs after trading Hall for Larsson. In my view that is not an annihilation of the team. Making the Eberle for Strome trade and the corresponding results so far this season, sure say what you will. But I think there are other issues going on there.
To some of the other comments...the Leafs ARE NOT trading Mitch Marner because of a little sophomore slump. If anything it will make signing all 3 kiddies that much easier!

Would also add, Adam Larsson was not a previously unknown defenceman...he was a 4th overall pick and not everything he does can be reflected well in a stat line.

3 Taylor Hall 11 goals (played less games due to injury)
This isn't a "garbage on the OIlers for making dumb trades" thread BTW. So spare me.
Just debating and having a healthy discussion, but it's been 30 games of this season. Why is this 30 games more important than any other period of time, and the make it or break it assessment period for all of these players careers?
Last year McDavid scored 30 while Hall and Eberle both scored 20. We could do this all day using different periods of time...I'm just failing to understand your reasoning here.

Did not like the Subban-Weber trade from Montreal's side of things. I like Weber but I don't think he suits their style of play. But he was coming off a career year so his stock was at its peak when Nashville traded him and got maximum value in return. Sometimes these trades are done for reasons fans aren't privvy to...like maybe a player requested a trade, or to make room under the salary cap because they are going to sign someone to a huge contract.

Oilers made the mistake of thinking just because you have a “need” in an area that you should overpay to go get it and everything will work itself out. For the poster above who said since the Oilers made the playoffs last year it automatically excuses this trade, that’s asinine. How do you know Oilers wouldn’t have done better with the trade undone. To think Larsson, who was certainly good last year, made the big difference for them over McDavid/Draisaitl being incredible or Nurse and Klefbolm both having breakout seasons is a bit crazy. This front office is just lucky they had McDavid fall into their laps and save them from being bottom dwellers for the next decade. Even with him, not a chance this team wins a cup as long as that front office is in place.

Steven Stamkos wanted to play for his hometown but Gary's boys strong armed him into remaining in Tampa, they made him an offer he couldn't refuse DB....

To anyone reading this thread: This isn't an attack on your team. That is not what I intended when posting this. The point of this thread is to illustrate that NO ONE and I mean NO ONE would actually make the "trades" mentioned above. There is NO GM in the real world that would've entertained such nonsense. All these trades are orchestrated by gary bettman and a few thug owners which include the Toronto Maple Leafs. For example: Why did the Senators have to trade away Kyle Turris? The fans liked him, which is very important to any team, that your fanbase "likes" the player. The GM liked Turris. As Turris said himself, Ottawa's owner Eugene Melnyk traded him. So lets look into that. Turris was unrestricted and signed a 6 yr x 6 mil deal with Nashville lol. Why wouldn't or couldn't he have signed that deal with the Senators? Its a very reasonable deal especially when Matt Duchene comes into Ottawa carrying a $6 million dollar tag anyways!!!! and hes signed only until next year meaning the Senators might lose him for nothing if they cant resign him!!! So not only do the Senators give up the better/cheaper player, play Russian roulette with an unsigned player, they also GIFT the Avalanche with their 2017 1st round pick Shane Bowers(L winger 6ft 180lbs), goalie Andrew Hammond, their 2018 1st round pick, but also their 2019 2nd round pick. What kind of nonsense is this? There is no team in existence that would make this trade. The reality is, is that this "trade" was orchestrated to strengthen the Nashville Predators (even more) and to restock and retool the Colorado Avalanche. Pure and Simple. gary style

Of course no one on earth (especially an intelligent billionaire businessman) would make such an idiotic deal to destroy their franchise we know this and so does any sensible person. Save your energy guy, people like to believe in rainbows and unicorns, the world is a just a impartial place and money influences nothing lol. This helps them sleep better at night. Reality is a scary place for most people. We are supposed to believe that the guy described below is that stupid.
He is the founder, former chairman and CEO of Biovail Corporation which was acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals. Canadian Business magazine ranked Melnyk 79th with a net worth of $1.21 billion on its 2017 list of Canada's 100 wealthiest people. He is also one of the richest residents of Barbados, where he now lives.

PC has seriously jeapordized the "McDavid era" with a hand full of awful extensions and trades (lucic, russell, strome, larson)
Pretty hard to explain some of those moves especially this season after coming so close last season and looking so powerful in the playoffs up until the NHL allowed Ryan Kesler to lay on top of Talbot in the crease while they shoved the puck in with 12 seconds left LOL......Not to mention a number of other brutally biased calls against the Oilers in that series as they held the Ducks hands all the way through it....

Saree, what style of play don't you like from Weber? His slow style? His inability to skate his way out of his own end? When players dump the puck in deep, if the defenceman can get to it quickly and skate or pass it out quickly, it neutralizes that play. If you have a slow moving defence corp nowadays, you are dead!! And as far as salary cap issues, there is no bigger anchor than the one the Habs took on with Weber. Long and painful. Lastly, Subban loved playing in Montreal. Who donates 10 million to a children's hospital and leaves?
