Does anyone who has listened to Ozzie over the years REALLY think he loves Castro per se? What I really think is that he has an admiration for someone who has persevered for so long all things considered. Castro can be a complete ass hole and someone you may want to kill, but is it a crime to have admiration for some of their qualities......even if they use them for evil? I don't think so.
Stalin was a bastard in so many ways (how many of his own people did he kill?). But WWII may have had a different outcome if it wasn't for him. I don't think it's criminal to recognize and understand that. Doesn't mean you agree 100% with how he went about his business.
Typical over-reaction. How can anyone take anything Ozzie says at face value considering his history. I get more entertainment value out of his tirades involving his baseball team.
agree completely. ozzie admits to drinking himself into stupors and maybe the reporter should have used a little bit of discretion in printing it in that context. but either way it doesnt really matter. as mentioned earlier, people are just a bunch of hypocritical fucks looking for anything to riot about. a sick sick sick society we live in today.
it was only a few months ago ozzie is on the cover of espn magazine french kissing his bulldog anyone that knows ozzie should know to take what he says with a grain of salt. but when it comes to baseball , its clear hes a true manager of players. not quite the genius of tony larussa but still effective.
keep in mind when ozzie first came to the white sox, he declared that it was "MY TEAM!" as in, that cancer , frank thomas, is on a short leash. then of course, thomas gets sent away and the white sox win the world series
and to an earlier point. people involved in sports are just that. sports are their lives. why should or would anyone want to ask these guys political views. thats about as ludicrous as adrian peterson equating roger goodells stance on the lockout as slavery towards the players
one final point, most atheltes , coaches , etc are not exactly well versed in public speaking. and if people are so trigger happy that they want to sensationalize anything and everything that is said in the heat of the moment, then maybe we will have more bill belichick types of press releases where a person just stands there like a statue , expressionless, and gives away nothing.

the way i see it, if i own a company and one of my employees is saying shit that has nothing to do with his job and is going to hurt my business, i'm going to deal with that employee. it has nothing to do with freedom of speech. but i don't really give a shit beyond that.
Exactly what I was inferring! These same people in this thread think it is okay to say whatever the fuck you want without any consequences. If Ozzie instead said something extreme like, "I hate all white people, and they are going to Hell for taking the Native American's land"" these hypocrites in this forum would be asking for his head.

I reiterate my other point: If you owned Coca-Cola, and your CEO states publicly that he hates the product and loves Mountain Dew instead, you would have no problem with it since he has free speech?

Dumb Ass.
Ozzie did not come out and say LORIA is equal to Hitler or say a Marlins player is = to CASTRO. So what kind of MORONIC comparison is that ?

You failed to answer the question. Since you are also defending free speech, do you vote YES or NO to my previous statement? Or even better, are you saying it is Ozzie's right to say whatever he wants without consequences?
If you cannot adequately answer the above questions, then that would actually make you the stupid one.

No, it's you that's missing the point. Ozzie didn't say he hates the Miami Marlins (his product) and loves the Atlanta Braves, he said he loves Fidel Castro (a politician) and Ozzie is a baseball coach...so your analogy doesn't fit. He said something that has nothing to do with his product (baseball). The man stated his opinion about someone he likes, big deal. What if he said he loves Obama? Would you still care then? Or would he just be exercising free speech in the land of the free? Like Searchwarrant said, the Cubans don't even go to the games anyway they just look for shit to cry about. Kinda' like mainstream America.

Why do you thing companies spend millions on marketing and advertising? Because perception of their product eventually becomes reality. And the perception of the Miami community is that Ozzie's love for Castro equals hatred for them.
And being from Venezuela, I don't think Ozzie gives a crap about the Cuban immigrants and their plight.
As I stated before, I love Ozzie's candidness, and if wants to offend a player, another team, owner, etc. that is fine by me. But when he attacks his community, why would he not expect a backlash?

You may be absolutely correct with your assertions, but you are skirting the issue and COMPLETELY missing the point regarding free speech.
I appreciate the posts on free speech in America a great deal, unfortunately he works for a the Marlins. He also is employed by a business that can deliver whatever punishment they find to be a distraction from the bottom line.

What if Bobby Cox said that he admired David Duke?
I guess everyone would be okay with that in Atlanta?
What If Dusty Baker (Manager of the Reds) said White people smell like wet dogs and aren't suited to play in the heat like Latinos and Blacks? Baker said it, but nobody gave a fuck because he is black.... https://open.salon.com/blog/con_chapman/2009/04/25/reds_manager_says_white_people_smell_like_wet_dogs

I think Ozzie is one of those guys that has to have an opinion on everything even things he doesn't understand or know about.
We all have a friend like that who thinks he's a know it all but really knows nothing.
I've been to Cuba 3 times everyone seems very happy and content with life. Much more than in Mexico or the Dominican.
Than I met a prof here in Toronto who left Cuba legally and he told me how horrible it is, and I started to realize the good and the really bad in Castro.

Funny how that gets said with little to no uproar, I am sure if white manager or white/latino manager said african americans smelled like..... it would also be just passed over.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were asking for Dusty to be fired immediately. My bad. Those racist, blackmailing fucks brush it off when it is one of their own.
