Im not forgetting what he did for Indiana back in the days, but the more I hear The General talk, the more I think back to John Madden's 8-legged turkey and all the ramblings of obvious things that just ruined many NFL games for me.
I used to turn the mute button on the TV and throw the local A.M. radio sports station on instead, just to keep Madden's ramblings out of my head.
At times ole Bobby can have some good things to point out, but do we really need another 70+ grandpa telling us what we just saw and already know?
Don't get me wrong, he Does know a Lot about college basketball, but it's like listening to an old relative speak about when they were a kid.
Does anybody else not enjoy hearing The General commentate?

Like I said, don't get me wrong, he DOES know a lot about college basketball, but his old grandpa voice coupled with what is becoming more & more commentary of the obvious, is getting old...to me at least.
Almost a monotonous commentator that never changes the pace of his voice.
He's not quite my John Madden yet, but he's getting there. Hell, Ill take comedian Dennis Miller over Knight...ha ha just kidding.
Just checking if anybody else isn't entertained at all by Bob Knight.

He could at least get mad at a player and throw a chair on the court for me...that would make up for his lack of entertainment and I'd take back everything I've said about him!

Next time he calls a tight game, and the play by play asks him what he would draw up, pay attention. 9/10 he draws the exact play on the board that they run in the game 30 seconds later. The knowledge that guy possesses is beyond anyone that I've seen(maybe wooden). He is the real deal and actually SAYS what people are thinking and don't have the balls to say.....LOVE COACH KNIGHT

bobby knight is legit.....don't all broadcasters state the obvious on television.....i've found a real respect for radio broadcasters more than television.....they have to be more descriptive and on point
make no mistake you are in the minority on this one.....and I miss John Madden

My dad graduated with Scottie May, then went to many games at IU and sat behind the bench. Till this day, many, and I mean many of his players hate this guy. From the stories I've heard, he will always be a P.O.S.

I'll again state that Bob Knight DOES know a lot about college basketball. However, 9 out of 10 times he calls what they do in a tight game, is pretty far fetched. Keep track...it's far from 9 of 10.
I've heard him cover his tracks and disagree with what the coach just did just because the kid missed the shot. Sure, had the kid Made the basket, he would've just went into explaining what we just saw. Just because he Used to be a coach doesn't mean that what he says is more right than the current coaches themselves. Coaches DO have different gameplans, strategies, philosophies, plays, and players than he had back before the Millennium flipped. He didn't do too bad with the players he had at Texas Tech either.
I actually thought it Was Entertaining what an A**hole he WAS; HE USED TO BE ENTERTAINING. I might not agree with how he treated some people or what he said to them, but at least he was entertaining.
Here is an ESPN Top 10 that they put together on his birthday once (this is only SOME of the greatest things I remember from him):

I think he should wear a tuxedo so he looks more professional, something in a Jim Carrey Orange would do the trick. I'll take Bobby Knight over Dick Vitale ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Vitale is like nails on a chalk board to me. In my opinion, the players that hate Bobby Knight are probably a bunch of spoiled brats that were never disciplined by their parents and were always pampered by their parents and therefore couldn't handle being "yelled at" (or sometimes choked) by their coach.

Agreed. I feel like Mr. Rogers is commentating. BUT, maybe that was part of the conditions of accepting the ESPN commentator job...along with no throwing chairs, no swearing, and definitely no grabbing the other commentator's arm and lecturing him on respect.
You either love or hate him for who he is. Im just saying he was More entertaining before ESPN transformed him into a old, sweater-wearing Mr. Rogers.
"Color commentator?" At least let him cuss during the game!

From a players point of view, I think you'd absorb more of what was being taught if you respected your coach because HE respected you instead of such an aggressive dictatorship-like approach where respect is DEMANDED because of who Bob Knight WAS and what he has already accomplished.

But then again, our Army and such aren't as strong as it is by being "soft". America has perfected the art of creating soldiers. I believe The General used a lot of those techniques to build good teams that function well as a unit.
The difference between the basketball player and a soldier is that a kid playing college basketball that had no structure or discipline before, doesn't face a dishonorable discharge, court proceedings, jail time, and a record that'll haunt him the rest of his life. Way more control in the armed forces once you sign your name on Those Lines.

Knight is annoying as hell....in fact, most ESPN color commentators are annoying...Much rather listen to someone like Len Elmore or Dino Guardio. I also find it peculiar that Musburger now where's a sweater when calling games with Knight. Talk about giving into someones else demands.

I like how he said holmes might as well been a flagpole standing there on help defense... was pretty funny. I didn't know how much holmes sucked on that play b4 he pointed it out...

Totally agree. Have been thinking the same thing as this season has progressed. It's the same commentary every fucking game. Dude knows so much about basketball but it's tired at this point. It's tough to get through an entire BK broadcast these days.

It's possible ESPN makes him wear a sweater to help cover the electrodes connected to him that they shock him with if he swears and cusses or his heart rate goes over 80 bpms.
