isles fans are thankful that there is one gm actually dumber than theirs in the league
damn straight wiggins! i have read the 4 fired scouts were let go because they were unprepaired for all the extra picks! and i actually liked what the shithead (snow) did this year

as if the optics don't already look bad enough for howson (entrusting your draft to a scouting staff you've already determined isn't good enough to keep intact), imagine how bad it would have looked to say "ok guys, we've got an extra 7 picks to work with...and by the way, in case i forget to mention it later, nice workin with ya"...
potential good news is if jeff daniels follows jim carrey's cue, there'll be two openings for the sequel to dumb and dumber

The only way the Jackets are going to improve is through the draft. The Jackets had the opportunity to double their draft picks for the price of selecting Reinhart instead of Murray, and Howson declines the offer. Looks like Howson has been hanging out with Milbury too much lately.

the all star game in columbus should serve as a farewell party to hockey in ohio..
another Gary Bettman "expansion experiment" wreck. Columbus, Ohio is all about Ohio State sports esp football and baskets. they even have a decent CCHA (soon to be Big 10) hockey program for those in Columbus that want to feed their "hockey fix"
AND like bk_widows pointed out, it sure doesn't help when you have completely incompetent management.
I'm sure Rick Nash is "chomping at the bit" to GET the HELL out of there and go to a team that actually has a chance of WINNING something.

2nd overall picks traditionally all end up being high impact NHLers, while 4th overall picks are pretty hit or miss. If you look at second rounders, you might get lucky with a Subban or Quick, but only about 2 or 3 of the 30 ever actually make it in the NHL. The odds get worse in higher rounds.
Nothing wrong with taking the sure thing in Murray.

____________
That seems impossible. Everyone has a draft board and most teams plan for pretty much any and every scenario. Maybe not the Bluejackets, but that is hard to believe.

in fairness, the account didn't specify in what areas all the dismissed scouts were involved...
altho one was the asst dir of amateur scouting, a key position in draft prep work i would think, nhl teams employ scouts in other areas such as pro scouting, europe, minor pro leagues, etc...
obviously one would hate to think any staff would be unprepared to handle TOO many draft picks; the draft is the focus of their entire year's work...
in such a case however, i would imagine the number of amateur scouts getting the ziggy would only be exceeded by the total of season-ticket cancellations
