Florida State should be the favorite to win the national championship, but they're 8/1. As of now, they're getting the 2nd best odds to win the national championship, just behind Alabama.
The reason that Florida State should be the #1 ranked team in the country, is because almost their entire roster is returning. This is a team that played very well down the stretch, and beat Michigan in their finale. The few piece's that they're losing, are big contributors, but they already have their replacements, which could actually be upgrades. FSU has to replace two productive players, in Dalvin Cook and Demarcus Walker, but they already had a pretty good option in Jacques Patrick at RB, but they also signed the #1 Player in the nation Cam Akers. I usually dont put too much stock into 5 star recruits, because you really dont know how they will translate, but it only takes about 30 seconds of watching Akers, to see that he has the same size, speed, elusiveness as every good college back. RB is also one of the easiest transitions from HS to college, I would be shocked if he didnt contribute in a major way next season. Demarcus Walker was great, but Florida State also signed the #1 ranked DE in the country, but if not they already have Nnadi and Josh Sweat on their Dline. The addition of Derwin James cannot be overstated.
Derwin James missed his sophmore season, but was the Freshman of the year in 2015. Take a look at these stats:
91 Tackles
9.5 TFL
4.5 Sacks
2 FF
3 FR
0 % completion
Key Starters Returning:
1. Deandre Francois QB
2. Nyquen Murray WR
3. Jacques Patrick/ Cam Akers RB
4. Their entire Oline other than LT Roderick Johnson
Defense:
1. Josh Sweat
2. Derrick Nadi
3. Their entire defense other than Demarcus Walker and Marquez North.

I just don't see it. They have to go through Alabama, a lesser Louisville (with Jackson), a better NC State, a better Miami, a better Florida at Florida and at Clemson. They can lose one, but I think they set-up for a 9-3 year.

I don't see much value in FSU @ 8/1........in fact, I don't see much value in any of the top 5 teams being all >10/1 @ vegasinsider.
At the risk of being a homer, I see Washington @ 45/1 as being a good value. They had one of the youngest teams in D1 last season. They were essentially a year ahead of schedule as far as seriously competing for a NC.
Texas @ 28/1? LOL.........Penn St. @ 35/1 has some value........
