Mid Tennessee is +8.5 and will likely climb to 10 by game-day, I think that is way too many points and that the Blue Raiders could very well win outright.......While Vandy (at home) did win handedly when these met last season, they were out gained by 150YDS.
Mid-Tenn is a very dangerous team this year. They have one of the elite QB's in the nation in Brent Stockstill who threw for over 3200 YDS and 31 TDS despite missing 3 games last season. He did undergo surgery in the off-season but is expected to bee 100 in the opener. They also have the Nations active leader in receptions and YDS in Richie James....They are replacing 2 "O-Lineman but are expecting to be just as strong if not stronger on the line that blocked great for their running game as well......I do not believe Vanderbilt who ranked 83rd in the nation in pass"D" will be able to contain this potent offense an a revenge game at Tennessee........Vandy QB Kyle Shurmur has looked impressive in a few games and really bad in others and is not the guy they are looking for...He threw 10 INTS and only 9 TD's.......The heart and soul of the offense is RB Ralph Webb who ran for over 1200 YDS last season....The heart and soul of their "D" was Zach Cunningham who is now in the NFL....Vandy finished the year 6-7 and had a few very impressive victories....They beat GA despite their "O" only generating 140 YDS......I honestly think this team played over their heads and will be looking at a substantial drop off winning 3-4 games this year.....while the Blue Raiders "D" was terrible last season they have brought in new "D" Coord Scott Shafer former head coach of Syracuse.....The Raiders bring back the strength of their "D" in their linebacker corps.......They are bringing back all of the backfield as well who were young ans inexperienced and will no doubt be stronger.......... Vandy did play stronger competition in the SEC.....However when looking at common opponents Mid Tenn lost by 1 to W KENT. While Vandy beat W. KENT. by one......Also Vandy lost to Missouri while Mid Tenn beat Missouri....Bottom line: I believe the better team will be getting 8.5-10 points at home in a revenge game........

Agree. +9 or so looks good. Would like to see a total on this game in the 60s, could be worth a look.
did you guys not see MTSU get blown out by a weak Hawaii team in the Hawaii bowl? Man, there's so many better games to choose from than this, but you guys so far seem to choose the really tough games to cap. To each his own, but this one is a no touchie for me..

late..
Yeah.......But I like this particular match-up.......This season with an improved team who likely would have been 10-3 if their QB stayed healthy.........I believe MID TENN is just as good as Vandy and playing at home in a revenge game getting points is just too hard to pass up for me.

This will be Vandy's best team since James Franklin left for Penn State. The Commodores return 16 starters including the QB from a team that won 6 games last year including wins over Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee. I'm guessing it is a little more difficult winning six games in the SEC conference than winning seven games in CUSA. Maybe just a tad...you think?
Vanderbilt beat MTSU 47-24 last year so what is different. They have better players and a scoring defense that gave up just 24 points per game. MTSU gave up 39 points per game and must find five new starters on that side of the ball.
Yes, MTSU had a potent offense during 2016 while averaging 38.8 points per game. To keep up that pace this season, they will have to find five new replacements and hope their starting QB has recovered from injury. Vanderbilt will have 9 veterans returning on offense that won some big games late like Tennessee for example.
The two schools are 33 miles apart so playing in Murfreesboro is no big deal. The Doars will stay in Nashville and bus over the day of the game.
Vanderbilt has Alabama A&M for their second game while MTSU has back-to-back road trips to Syracuse and Minnesota.
At this date, I am all over the Commodores for a repeat of last year.

Sorry y'all, they might be bottom-of-the-barrel but Vandy is still an SEC team. We often forget the caliber of the SEC as it is vaguely cliched in way too many ways. Vandy all the way for me but I too probably won't play it come gameday

I posted earlier about this game as well. I like MTSU at home on opening night. I think the line is off because you are gonna have the typical "SEC" homers laying money just because. MTSU will have their way with Vandy secondary and I would be very surprised to see Vandy come in on opening night and get a double digit win

I dropped the ball on this game.....Line was at 8.5 when I posted and I thought it would go up not down....Line is now at 5.5 and I doubt it moves back up over 7......Should have played right away. ML only +180....Probably a no play now.

Wow. Why in the world did this drop 3 full points??? I read up on this game and came away agreeing with the thread comments. I come back and see sharp steam on MTSU???
Weird.
I thought it was high when it first came out so maybe it's at the right number now? No idea.

I agree with you Vandy is the play. The edge is with Vandy's defense. Although MTSU returns 8 starters on defense I don't think that's a good thing. They were pathetic last year, teams ran up and down on them all year never showing signs of improvement. MTSU is bringing in the coach from Syracuse to be D Cord., (did they not watch Cuse's defense last year).
It does get me a bit nervous line dropped down to 5.5 but IMO Vandy wins this 33-24.

Jakecece, Shafer wasn't at Syracuse last year. When he was at Syracuse, the defense was the only thing decent about those teams. They regressed in his final season with only 3 starters back.... you can hold that against him, but not last year.
