I'm not a fan of any team, just who I bet on, but I always hated that overrated team and their Happy Valley bs.
I will miss bucking those overrated PSU teams with their qb's who played like it was 1968 under Paterno in big games. Go back the last 20 yrs and look up their record ats in big games. It was money betting against them.
One of my biggest plays ever, I went to "Happy Valley" and watched the Miami Hurricanes beat the s*** out of Penn St. in the early 2000's[?}. Canes were -12,-13 and gave them a beating and I got to watch all the "Happy Vallers" cry like bitches.
Get ready to become Purdue/Northwestern the next 5 years.

Florida state is reeling in so many prospects, I think they are going to have the 1# recruiting class.
They have an outstanding recruiting class no doubt, but Rivals still has them ranked 5th behind Alabama, Texas, Florida and Ohio State. The classes of all 5 of those schools are pretty darn close though.
The problem with Florida State's class, from a rankings standpoint, is that they only have 19 recruits at this time.

Yea I see what you mean, they are listed as #2 on espn ranking but Alabama is 1# on both espn and rivals. Miami, USC and Stanford also had larger than expected coups today. It seems like LSU' decommitments has really hurt it's class.

that was an embarrassing loss no doubt....(that 2001 Cane team prolly most talented one in CFB history tho)
*guess you forgot about the 1997 or so Fiesta Bowl.... for the national title.....Canes gangsters all the way...wearing combat fatigues off the plane...walking out of the pre-game dinner....Penn St players in suits...Canes in sweats and combat attire... Penn St with maybe 3-4 guys that could start for Miami ....Paterno wins over Jimmy Johnson in one of the most embarrassing losses ever......Miami players are still crying like little gangster bitches BTW....

I posted a link on page 1 of this thread to an article that did an excellent job of explaining the issues that confronted LSU's recruiting class ths year. Basically it was several factors that came together in what the article accurately described as a "perfect storm." This "perfect storm" was really not the fault of the LSU coaching staff, nor was it a situation where LSU is not a highly desirable destination for recruits. It was an uncanny string of unrelated events that, in their totality, really hurt LSU's class.

I also heard Saban announce that he recruited a really good kicker named Adam Griffith.
Yes, Griffith, the #1 ranked kicker in the nation, has been a long time Alabama commit. One person I spoke to who coachs kicking seems to think that Griffith will be the starting kicker next season.
This is one of the most anti-climatactic National Signing Days in recent memory for Alabama. That is so because Saban essentially had this class wrapped up 3 weeks ago, which is why there have been so few NSD announcements for Alabama. Their class has essentially been full for quite a while. The Alabama coaching staff has been working almost exclusively on the 2013 class for the past month. They've already secured commitments from 7 highly-touted 2013 prospects.

Hard to believe ESPN is so far off. They still have Cal in the top 25 when the Dawgs have actually replaced them.
Stanford is getting a MONSTER class! These kids have to be smart enough to know Harbaugh isn't here anymore, don't they?
Yeah, Stanford is doing a remarkable job. I really expected them to drop back off post-Harbaugh/Luc, but they are doing a great job of re-loading. Looks like they may continue to be a factor in the PAC 12 in the future.

After seeing previous OL players from Stanford become jacked up and go to the NFL ( David Decastro ), new recruits on the offensive line want to do the same. Both of Stanford' 5 star recruits are on the o-line and so are chunks of their other recruits. Considering how limited and restricted Stanford' recruiting can be ( primarily due to academic requirements ), Shaw is doing a great job.

this shows your intelligence level falls right along the lines of those at the academia standard of student athletes, miami florida.
and if memory serves me, their last 3 biggest games they have played in postseason wise was vs Florida State WIN, vs USC loss, and vs LSU WIN in the orange, rose, and capital one bowls respectively.
not to mention the 86' game reference by bookie in one of the biggest upsets in college football history, right along with the one where ohio state punked those same overrated canes about 20 years later.

These rankings are incredibly stupid. Pull this thread up in 3 years and we can discuss . Notre Dame another top 10 class only to find themselves in a lower tier bowl at the end of the season.

I believe I stated the last 20 years. see if you can fiqure out how long ago 1986 was.
Rose Bowl Usc got crushed. Past two years Alabama bitch slaps them.
Undefeated at Iowa in '08, lose
At Wisc. this past season to win their division, crushed again.
Miami in 2001 to open the season at home crushed again.
Ohio St. in 2009 .......
I could go on all night.
I forgot you beat LSU in the Capital One Bowl { LOL,really } in the mud.

I'm very surprised at Arkansas finishing near the bottom of the SEC (11th out of 14). Losing a couple of long time verbals in the final days didn't help any.
LSU did very well in an area that they needed to keep their 3-4 defense stout as they had a bounty of LBs commit including highly sought after Kwon Alexander from Alabama. They also signed 275 lb dual threat QB Jeremy Liggins.
I was pleasantly surprised that Tennessee was able to add alot of quality talent(10 4*s) and speed to a team that returns plenty.
Kentucky was the first team that benefitted from the new oversign rules as they got a commitment from Atlanta RB Justin Taylor. Taylor verbally committed to Alabama a year ago but do to a torn ACL Saban gave his spot to another recruit and asked Taylor to "grayshirt" and enroll at UA in 2013. Taylor opted to sign with UK and be eligible immediately.
With everything that has happened in Happy Valley,it's not surprising that Penn State currently has the #50 recruiting class. Not to mention that their new HC spent signing week in Mass. and Indianapolis at his other job, which is calling plays for the Patriots in the Super Bowl.
Strangest way to lose a recruit? That would have to be Cassanova McKinzy snubbing the Clemson Tigers at the last minute in favor of Auburn because, "There were no Chik-Fil-A restaurants anywhere on campus."

Here is a pretty good summation of NSD by Stewart Mandel of SI (and I'm not talking about the the beginning of the article where he heeps praise on Nick Saban).

Must not be any big wins...beat LSU in the mud, nice excuse..point out all the negatives but omit the positives..omit the undefeated season when they get screwed with #2, that team with Kerry Collins never won anything...Qbs Darryl Clark, Michael Robinson were stiffs for 3 of the last 5 years? Was it too warm in Florida when they beat FSU in Florida...road game for rose bowl vs usc was a tough one...omit bowl wins vs texas and m twice, tennessee etc..bama finally manned up to sign a contact after they got saban, penn state tried for years to rekindle rivalry..and bamas been pretty dam good last two years while penn state was rebuilding last year and had no qb this year, otherwise they were top 10 team easily.
they lost at the buzzer to a fg on the road against a consistent iowa team...no real shame there.
I think your underselling PSU in the last few years. You have to include the '05 team on that list of elite PSU squads...theyre two phantom seconds the bullshit cheating Michigan plant refs added to the clock for no reason from being undefeated and screwed that year.
Going into this year, lets just go with since the 5 year span where we sucked, we've had 3 top 10 finishes in 6 years. Only 5 teams have had more top 10 finishes over the same span - OSU, Alabama, LSU, Texas & USC. Thats the same number of top 10's as Florida, Boise, Oklahoma, TCU and Va Tech. Its one more top 10 than Oregon, Auburn, Georgia and Wisconsin. Its 2 more top 10s than Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford and Iowa. Its 3 more than schools like Miami, FSU, Tennessee, Clemson, Texas A&M and Nebraska.
NO big game wins there, perhaps our definitions of them are different??

It also doesnt hurt when a university has no academic standards for student athletes.
I hate to be the one to upset your Alabama-hating rant, but Alabama just set the all-time SEC record by placing 38 players on the SEC Honor Roll. That was second in the nation only to Stanford who had 39.
Moreover, Alabama placed 5th in the nation in the 2011 Academic BCS rankings. They routinely rank in the top 10 in this catagory (they ranked 8th in 2010). See:
