Western Kentucky 35, Kentucky 26: Brandon Doughty threw for 271 yards and a score as the Hilltoppers rewarded Bobby Petrino with a win over the Wildcats in his coaching debut in Nashville, Tenn.

Keshawn Simpson, Antonio Andrews and Leon Allen combined for 225 yards and four touchdowns to pace Western Kentucky's rushing attack. Mitchell Henry had six catches for 65 yards and a score, while Willie McNeal hauled in six passes for 57 yards.

Jalen Whitlow got the start over Maxwell Smith at quarterback for Kentucky and rushed for 75 yards and a score, but Smith added a late touchdown pass with 1:37 remaining in the game. Raymond Sanders, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season, finished with 98 on 14 carries.

The Hilltoppers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Doughty and Andrews combined to lead a nine-play, 75-yard scoring drive on their opening possession. Doughty was 5-for-5 on the drive and Andrews helped pave the way with 27 yards on the ground.

Kentucky converted 10 points off of two fumbles by Andrews in the first half. Andrews redeemed himself on the first fumble by scoring on the ensuing drive to put Western Kentucky up 14-3 early in the second quarter.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Andrews accounted for more than 100 all-purpose yards for a 14th consecutive game. ... Western Kentucky has back-to-back wins over Kentucky after stunning the Wildcats 32-31 in OT last season. ... Petrino improved to 9-0 in season openers.
