Boston College 34, Maine 3:
Chase Rettig threw for three touchdowns and Spiffy Evans returned a punt 82 yards for another as host Boston College coasted to a win over FCS opponent Maine at Alumni Stadium.

The Eagles (1-1) had a sluggish start, fumbling twice early and trailing by a field goal until Rettig found Evans for a 3-yard score midway through the second quarter. A muffed snap on a Black Bears' punt moments later gave the Eagles the ball on the Maine 10-yard line and Rettig promptly found Johnathan Coleman for a 9-yard touchdown to give Boston College a 14-3 lead.

Nate Freese made a 39-yard field goal with 61 seconds left in the second to give the hosts a 14-point advantage at halftime.

After another Freese field goal made it 20-3 with 4:30 left in the third, Boston College's defense forced a quick three-and-out. Evans took the ensuing punt back 82 yards to open up the contest.

The Eagles intercepted Maine quarterback Marcus Wasilewski moments later and Alex Amidon hauled in a 32-yard touchdown pass from Rettig with 1:41 left in the third. That gave Boston College a total of 17 points in less than three minutes and a 34-3 lead.

Rettig finished 16-for-32 for 219 yards. Amidon had six catches for 99 yards and has 16 receptions through the first two games for the Eagles, who travel to Northwestern next Saturday.

Boston College was hurt early by a pair of fumbles by running backs, including one just minutes into the game by Tahj Kimble that bounced through the Eagles' end zone for a touchback, giving the Black Bears (0-1) the ball on their own 20. Another fumble by Rolandan Finch midway through the first led to Maine's only points of the game on a 19-yard field goal by Brian Harvey.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Eagles outgained the Black Bears in the first half, 229-65. Just two of Maine's first-half yards came on the ground. ... Rettig has completed 48 passes for 660 yards through the first two games of the season. ... Wasilewski was making his first career start in the program's 1,000th game.
