Recap: LSU 42, Western Kentucky 9
Nov 12, 2011
LSU shook off a sluggish first half to defeat visiting Western Kentucky 42-9 on Saturday and extend the nation’s longest active non-conference winning streak to 37 games.
The No. 1 Tigers scored 28 points in the second half and held Western Kentucky to a safety.
LSU (10-0) made a goal-line stand at its own 1 to stifle the Hilltoppers’ best chance to score offensively after intermission.
Alfred Blue scored two touchdowns and ran for 121 yards on nine carries - all in the second half, and Kenny Hilliard added two touchdowns on short runs.
Jordan Jefferson started at quarterback and went most of the way for LSU, completing 8-of-15 passes for 168 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown to Rueben Randle to open the scoring.
Western Kentucky (5-5) saw its five-game winning streak come to a close but became the first team to score a touchdown on LSU in the first quarter this season. The 10-play, 65-yard march was capped by Keshawn Simpson's 2-yard run.
Bobby Rainey, who went over 4,000 career rushing yards last week, had 85 yards.
