California dominated on both sides of the ball and kept its bowl hopes alive with a convincing 30-7 victory over visiting Washington State on Saturday.

Isi Sofele rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries for California (5-4, 2-4 Pac-12 North), which handed Washington State (3-6, 1-5) its fifth straight loss and outgained the Cougars 288-69 on the ground.

The Golden Bears took command in the first half when they held the Cougars to minus-15 yards rushing. California won for only the second time in its last six games.

California, which was ahead 23-0 at halftime, extended its lead early in the third quarter on senior fullback Will Kapp’s 43-yard run on fourth-and-1 for his first career touchdown.

California’s Keenan Allen had eight receptions for 85 yards and became the sixth receiver in school history to break the 1,000-yard mark in a season.

After throwing for 337 yards in a loss to Oregon last week, Cougars quarterback Marshall Lobbestael was 15-of-37 passing for 155 yards against California.

Washington State, which has won only one league road game in the past four years, needs two wins in its final three games to become bowl eligible.
