No. 17 Texas took advantage of three first-half turnovers and numerous other costly mistakes to build an insurmountable halftime lead and blow out Iowa State 37-14 on Saturday night in Ames, Iowa.

Texas (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) led 34-0 at the break in avenging last year’s embarrassing 28-21 home loss to Iowa State, which was the Cyclones’ first-ever win against the Longhorns.

Texas improved to 4-0 all-time in Ames and has won eight of its last nine Big 12 true road games heading into next week's showdown with bitter rival and top-ranked Oklahoma in Dallas.

David Ash threw two first-half touchdowns for the Longhorns, the first coming on a 48-yard bomb to Mike Davis early in the second quarter. That came after Iowa State committed a personal foul on a fourth-and-12 punt that kept the Cyclones' defense on the field.

Texas also blocked an Iowa State punt, which true freshman Josh Turner scooped up and ran 34 yards for a score to make it 27-0.

In front of the second-largest crowd in Jack Trice Stadium history, the Cyclones (3-1, 0-1 Big 12) laid an egg, failing to score until a James White 2-yard touchdown plunge with 11:33 left in the fourth quarter.

Iowa State fell to 2-13 under coach Paul Rhoads when allowing 24 or more points.
