Case Keenum passed for 460 yards and five touchdowns, and Houston scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to blow out North Texas 48-23 on Saturday night in Denton, Texas.

Keenum, who is 2,717 yards away from becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading passer, threw touchdown passes of 33, 16, 46 and 21 yards in the second half as the Cougars pulled away from the Mean Green.

Patrick Edwards had 182 receiving yards and a touchdown for Houston, which spoiled North Texas’ first game in its new, $78 million Apogee Stadium.

Thirteen different players caught a pass for the Cougars, who haven’t lost to North Texas since 1975 but trail the all-time series 7-6.

It was Keenum’s 27th career 300-yard passing game as the sixth-year senior passed former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy for fourth all-time in total yardage.

Houston’s defense also held North Texas running back Lance Dunbar, who is third among active FBS players in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, to 48 yards on 18 carries.

North Texas has started 0-2 in five of the last six years, and hasn’t won more than three games in a season since 2004.
