Oklahoma State (11-2) set a school record for wins with a 36-10 rout of Arizona in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Wednesday.

The Cowboys' high-powered offense was held well below season averages, but their defense dominated. They intercepted three of Nick Foles’ passes, and returned one 62 yards for a touchdown to take a 23-7 lead at halftime.

Senior running back Kendall Hunter, who usually balances out the Cowboys’ dominant passing game, ran three times for minus-1 yard in the first half, and finished with 27 yards.

Even junior quarterback Brandon Weeden was held to 244 yards passing, 100 yards below the Cowboys’ average. However, he found standout wide receiver Justin Blackmon wide open for a 71-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Blackmon finished with nine catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Dan Bailey, winner of the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker, booted three field goals, but missed an extra point.

Arizona was unable to gain any momentum as Alex Zendejas missed two field goals. Zendejas missed two crucial field goals in Arizona’s overtime loss to Arizona State.

The Wildcats (7-6), who climbed as high as No. 11 in the poll this season, finished on a five-game losing streak.
