Recap: Nevad 35, Fresno State 34

Vai Taua scored three touchdowns, including a 24-yard run with 4:51 left, to give No. 21 Nevada a 35-34 victory over host Fresno State in the Western Athletic Conference on Saturday night.

Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including a 47-yard run in the first half as the Wolf Pack (9-1, 4-1) kept its WAC title hopes alive. The Wolf Pack hosts undefeated Boise State on Nov. 26.

Robbie Rouse rushed for 217 yards and scored three touchdowns, including a 44-yard run in the third quarter to put Fresno State ahead 31-28.

Kaepernick, who is 6 feet 6, 220 pounds, gave Nevada a 28-24 lead with a 19-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Kaepernick grew up in Turlock, Calif., about 90 minutes from Fresno, and had about 200 family members and friends in attendance.

Ryan Colburn threw two touchdown passes for Fresno State, including a 26-yarder to Isaiah Burse in the third quarter to give the Bulldogs a 24-21 lead.

Taua scored two touchdowns late in the first half to put Nevada ahead 21-17 at halftime. He scored on a 4-yard run with 1:01 left, and 1-yard run with 34 seconds to go. The second TD was set up by a Colburn fumble.

Rouse also had an 11-yard TD catch and a 2-yard TD run in the first half.

Kevin Goessling kicked two field goals, including a 34-yarder on the first play of the fourth quarter to give Fresno a 34-28 lead.

Fresno State (6-3, 4-2) travels to No. 4 Boise State next week.
