Oregon looked every bit like a No. 1 team in a 60-13 rout of UCLA, Thursday in Eugene, Ore.
The Ducks (7-0, 4-0 Pac-10), ranked No. 1 in the Coaches Poll and second in the BCS rankings, overwhelmed the Bruins with their super high-speed offense. Oregon scored touchdowns on its first four possessions and took a commanding 32-3 lead into halftime. The Ducks racked up 582 yards of offense, punted only once and put up at least 60 points for the third time this season.
Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas completed his first 11 passes and finished 22-of-31 for a career-high 308 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. LaMichael James rushed for 123 yards and scored on runs of 8 and 6 yards to pace the Ducks' ground game.
UCLA (3-4, 1-3 Pac-10), playing without injured starting quarterback Kevin Prince, moved the ball on the ground effectively early on, but couldn't come up with a big scoring play to answer the Oregon onslaught. The Bruins were limited to 286 yards of offense and were forced to settle for two Kai Forbath field goals and a meaningless touchdown run by quarterback Richard Brehaut long after the outcome had been decided.
Making only his second career start, Brehaut completed 16 of 23 passes for 159 with an interception.
Oregon travels to face Southern Cal on Oct. 30. UCLA will try to rebound at home against Arizona on Oct. 30.
