There are only eight games on the MLB betting board today but there are still plenty of wagering options available if you explore some MLB prop bets.

We check out a Yankees lineup that has been anything but dangerous this season, while also making a play based on Mike Trout and the high-scoring Angels, as we bring you our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Thursday, April 22.

Today’s MLB props and picks

New York Yankees Team Total Under 4.5 (-130)

The Yankees have started their season off on the wrong foot, sitting at the bottom of the AL East with a 6-11 record. Somewhat surprisingly, their poor play at the plate has been the biggest problem despite a star-studded lineup.

The Yankees are 27th in the majors in scoring with just 3.47 runs per game, and that number has gone down to 2.2 runs per game over their last five contests.

New York is also dead-last in the majors in OPS at .630 and will be on the road at Progressive Field in Cleveland today as they play the first of a four-game series.

The Tribe will have Aaron Civale toeing the rubber and the 25-year-old is off to a strong start to the season, going 3-0 with a 2.18 ERA, and 0.73 WHIP, while holding opposing batters to an OPS of just .503.

Cleveland also has a strong bullpen, with their relievers pitching to a 3.00 ERA and an opponent batting average of .215 through 51 innings this season. Take the Under on the Yankees' team total.

Angels vs Astros Over 9 (+100)

Is this the year that the Angels finally break out as a contender? The Halos are third in the majors with 5.35 runs per game while ranking fourth in OPS at .773.

Three-time AL MVP Mike Trout is once again looking like the best player in the world, slugging six home runs and racking up an on-base percentage of .507 through the first 16 games of the year. But he's getting help this season, with Shohei Ohtani (.310 BA, 5 HRs, 13 RBI) and Jared Walsh (.327 BA, 4 HRs, 13 RBI) also mashing.

Unfortunately, the Angels will have unreliable veteran Alex Cobb on the mound today. Cobb has been striking out batters at a rapid rate so far this season, but that seems unsustainable in the long run for a guy that can't throw in a fastball. The 33-year-old has pitched to a 5.07 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP in 43 starts since 2018 and will be facing a dangerous Astros lineup.

The Over is 32-9-2 in the last 34 games in the head-to-head between these AL West rivals, while they are 8-0 O/U in the previous eight meetings in Houston. Take the Over again.

Marlins vs Giants Under 8.5 (-110)

The Marlins and Giants played a series against each other just last weekend but will face off again over the next four days, this time in San Francisco. In their previous meeting on Sunday, the Giants won 1-0 and low-scoring games between these teams has been the norm lately, with the Under cashing in seven of the last eight meetings.

San Francisco will have Aaron Sanchez on the mound today and while he had a horrific campaign three years ago in Toronto, he has looked solid this season. In three starts with the Giants, Sanchez has a 2.45 ERA, and in his previous outing he pitched 4 2-3 innings of one-run ball against the Marlins on Saturday.

The Marlins will give the ball to lefty Daniel Castano, who threw five innings of one-run ball against the Giants last Friday in his first appearance of the season. The 26-year-old had a solid rookie season with Miami last year, pitching to a 3.03 ERA in 29 2-3 innings across six starts.

The Giants are 25th in the majors in scoring, plating 3.67 runs per game. Although the Marlins are 15th with 4.35 runs/game they have been one of the worst hitting clubs in the majors for the last several years.

With the Giants 6-1-1 to the Under in their last eight games at home and the Marlins 18-7-2 to the Under in their previous 27 contests against a right-handed starter, back the Under.
