Action at Colorado sportsbooks is climbing once again.
The Colorado Division of Gaming on Monday reported that the state’s total sports-wagering handle for August was $211.9 million, up 16.9 percent compared to July and 64.7 percent over August 2020.
Gross gaming revenue from sports betting last month in Colorado was approximately $15.2 million, which makes the hold for the state's sportsbooks in August approximately 7.2 percent. Revenue in July had been $15.6 million and the win percentage was around 8.6 percent.
Most of the action last month in Colorado was also due to online sports betting, as mobile wagering accounted for 98 percent of the state’s total. Taxes collected from sportsbooks by the state last month added up to $726,365.
Busy season
There are currently 25 online sportsbooks and 17 retail operators taking wagers in Colorado, which launched legal sports betting back in May 2020.
The momentum gained in August could carry over into September as well, considering that the National Football League’s uber-popular regular season kicked off just this month. Pro football drew approximately $13.6 million in wagers last month in the state, the second-most popular sport among bettors even though the NFL was still in its preseason.
The most popular sport among Colorado bettors last month was baseball, which earned $69.6 million in wagers via online and retail sportsbooks.
