After taking a quick look it is no surprise to have WAS on top. However it is a surprise to have EDM at 2nd when they were last, last season. Also having BOS in last is a surprise. There are 160 points between first and last right now, at the end of last season it was 77. So the RPI will definately tighten up as the season progresses. So for now, all plays you should take caution. Just yesterday WIN beat FLA and FLA was 48 RPI higher.
Still have to come up with the best way to play this but I think flat betting would kill us with the high juice. We can play each team for a 3 game chase when they meet the RPI in case of a loss. Or we can just play the highest RPI of the day and chase from there, using labby would be best. Lets watch it for a bit longer and see.
Tonight we have OTT in BOS and OTT is the dog but is 96 RPI higher, can they pull off the road win?
We also have ANA at WAS and WAS is 89 RPI higher, will they get an easy home win?

WAS got the and OTT blew the upset. I think we have to look at last years RPI as well because when a team like BOS starts playing to their potential they will no longer be the lowest RPI team and start beating better teams like OTT.
Tonights plays would be
TOR 97
PHI 49
PIT 64
However TOR and PHO played yesterday so they would be a no play for tonight, and since SJ finished last season with a higher RPI then PIT it will also be a no play. Still just watching for now but basically looking for a team with a higher RPI for this season and last, more goals scored and less against then opponent. PHO fit the criteria but since they are back to back, no play.

great work RealityCheck, this system has some potential.
do you have any parameters when it comes to a minimum RPI difference.
just comparing it to B2W's mlb system, he had 42 away and 35 home. (just as reference)
I'm curious to know how far into the season do the new RPI ratings become reliable enough to follow the system accurately. Maybe, after X amount of games start the system? Just a thought.

No parameters yet, will determine them after more data. We're coming up to the end of the 4th week of the season so pretty soon. That is why I am going to check last seasons RPI as well for now since some teams have the potential to win but just aren't right now.
Todays play
WAS 91
They have the higher RPI, they have the higher power ranking, they have more goals scored and less against then CAR and they also had finished last season with a higher RPI then CAR as well. The only thing that would make the bet even better is if they were at home.
CHI 76 will not be a play since they played last night.

There is also WAS 117 but they played last night so I will not count the result either way. They have won the last 5 vs NYI and this is their first B2B game this year.

What am I missing?? Would love a B2W system that takes me to next year MLB that is just a profitable as his was for MLB.... would cover us all year basically!!!

Like in post #6, higher RPI both this season and last season, higher power ranking and more goals for and less against. We will see if a 26 RPI is to low or not. Yes, I'm trying this for hockey and then switch to MLB as well. Stick to the 2 sports if all works well. Just not sure how many plays we will get if we wait for the RPI to be above 40 or so.

I use last years RPI because you have a team like EDM who was last, last year and now 1st this year in RPI. They are 83 above MON this season but below MON last season, now way they can keep that up.

I agree, so now I feel comfortable with a 35 RPI higher then opponent for this season, a higher power ranking, more goals for and less against as the new criteria. I will do a 3 game chase as plays come up even though it will be on different teams.
