There is a good portion of coaches in today's game I don't get.
Their team goes down 14 points in the first half (sometimes the 1st quarter) and they immediately throw the offensive playbook out the window and throw it on every down the rest of the game. It makes zero sense. History has shown us that this methodology has never been successful long term but yet these crop of new coaches feel they can make it work.
Take Houston last night, they go down 14 in early and they may run the ball 5 more times the rest of the game. Why? You still have 3 quarters to make it up and your QB hasn't look great all season. The game was never more than 15 points at any point and you throw it 49 times? I get that Seattle has a strong run D but you have to mix it up. They made it too easy for the Seahawks D. They knew what to expect.
Jacksonville the same thing. Coen had them throw it on 10 of the first 15 plays. Lawrence finished with 48 throws. Don't get me started on the passing over on field goals. This whole analytics garbage is killing teams. Its a gamble, and as we all know, only a couple of us are successful at it. But back to the throwing, the Rams knew what was coming as early as the 2nd quarter and could let loose on D.
I don't get these gameplans by coaches today.

I tend to agree. In the case of Houston they are just terrible at running, so I understand the passing, but you can substitute short passes for a run game which is what they shouldve done. You cant run at all? Throw screens and stuff around the line of scrimmage to force them to still have to defend the backfield. Trying to chuck it downfield when your line is bad against a top defense is never gonna work.
2 games this weekend had me screaming. Coen going for it on 4th and 7 early instead of kicking a fg to go down 14-3 was an early killer, and then Payton did the exact same thing. Went for it on 4th and goal from the 2 instead of kicking a fg to go down 14-3. Those 3 pts in the Denver game were crucial. At the end of the game it would have only allowed Giants to tie not take the lead and they couldve won on a fg. As it turned out they got lucky the guy missed the xp so they still won on the fg but they shouldve never been in that position.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Texas had 1st and goal at the 3 yd line. 1st down, they ran to the one foot line. 2nd and a foot to go. Pass, pass, pass. Turnover on downs. You need a play in the playbook that will give you a foot. A guy that can leap over the line, or a QB sneak. That shit last night was just pathetic.
