its as if no one has even noticed the complete change of defensive scheme designed and played by Rex Ryan and the Jets. i posted this mid last week when analyzing their chances vs New England
all season long they blitzed everyone and got burned by WRs on man to man defense. however in Indy, they didnt blitz. they got pressure with their front 3 and an odd linebacker (they play the 3-4) or safety etc. they did the same last week. they made both manning and brady look awful
the pats and colts combined allowed 41 sacks all year, pitt has allowed 43. it seems as if this "rush 4, drop 7" scheme will be even more successful against pittsburgh than it was against Indy or NE
this was the one weakness in the jets defense and rex ryan has figured out how to make it go away.
if you are looking for an angle to take the Jets, thats it. no one runs on either team and Rex made Manning and Brady look like D2 QB's
i'm not playing the game...ive been nervous enough all week

i actually have mentioned this... can't remember which thread it was... people are talking about Pitt's defense, but the reality is that Pitt's offense has to come up with a scheme to out-scheme what Ryan is throwing out there right now, and if they don't, the Steelers will lose this game...

Yes, I see the improvement in the Jets' approach and good point and who could not be impressed by that effort last Sunday?
I also see an improvement in the Oline for the Steelers especially against the Ravens. Yes, the Ravens were able to pressure and harass Ben all game but that is normal for them. In crunch situations, the Pitts' online responded and their run blocking is better also.
I think the Jets' secondary will shut down Wallace and Ward but then there is Miller and Sanders and Brown to deal with along with the run for them to deal with. When last they met, the Steelers ran for around 140 that day (in a losing effort) but...
If the Jets do not score on special teams, I am hard pressed to visualize how they will score. The Jets run offense will be stuffed. I'm pretty sure that Taylor will get some help with Santonio Holmes and Cotchery and Edwards are weapons in the arsenal but will Sanchez have any time to hit them???????????
I see Ben getting pressured all day but if anyone thinks that Sanchez will not get blasted sooner or later they are in dreamland. How will a few hits affect his performance? Ben seems to thrive on the physical abuse but he is rare in his ability to take hits and still produce. Manning and Brady seem to fold up like a cheap suitcase after a few hits so which kind of QB is Sanchez? Is he a tough dude capable of taking a lickin' and keepin' on tickin???
I have my doubts but we shall see... Good luck on Sunday!!!

think again....Jets rush will not be stuffed they will have enough success on ground to open up play action. They can run it on anybody ran for over 100 in last matchup and will be close to that again because they run misdirection as well as anybody. Sanchez moves the pocket w/ the best of them and has been playing very well of late. They have given up 2 sacks in last 5 games and only one to the Steelers in 1st matchup because Sanchez is elusive and able to move the pocket. This can not be said for Big Ben who is not nearly as mobile as he was pre-injury not to mention playing behind the worst 2 offensive tackles left in the post season. Steelers rush offense is better than Colts and Pats but it's not what they do ever since Big Ben has been back under center they are not nearly as balanced as they should be. Maybe they get back to that Sunday but I doubt it. Jets for fun!

I agree, the Jets became entirely too predictable over the course of the season where they blitzed on almost every passing down. They have effectively dropped guys back and mixed in the occasional blitz package very well these past couple of games. Shaun Ellis will have to continue to be a beast like he was in last week's game though.

Certainly a good view. I agree they changed it up. But they also played different type of QB with respect to Manning an Brady. Neither of those guys is going to break out of the pocket or scramble. They both will move around the pocket but are essentially stationary targets.
BR isn't that type. He is going to move around and scramble and is better when the play breaks down then either Brady and Manning. The rush three/drop 8 will work unless BR gets out of the pocket and Jets defensive players get out of position or the Steelers receivers do their typical fire drill moves in the secondary as Ben moves around.
The Jets offense stunk in that last game. Don't let the 22 points fool anyone. 9 of those points were from safety and kick-off return. If they can get a couple of good returns that should help but counting on it to win will be an issue.

The last time they met, that opening ko return for a td was the key to the game. Other than that, this was an evenly matched game. Matt Spaeth made some key drops that could have resulted in 1st downs and a td. The jets ran for for 104 yds as a team. This time around Heath Miller is healthy and Pitt won't have to depend on Spaeth to make plays. Also Troy will be back to help in run support and I doubt that they will get 100 yds rushing again. The Jets were able to fluster Manning and Brady because they are pocket passers. Big Ben with his size and ability will extend plays that they could not. The key for the Jets will be the play of Sanchez and his ability to make the right decisions in key situations. He will not have time for long developing routes. They don't have to sack him, they just have to put him on the ground as many times as possible. By doing this, the clock in his head will get that much faster possibly forcing errant throws. The keys for Pitt will be special teams, the play of the offensive tackles and the ability for the secondary to make open field tackles. They can't allow Holmes, Edwards and Smith to catch slants and turn them into long gains. I love Pitt - 3.5 here but can't pull the trigger yet. And yes I am a HOMER. Nevertheless, this will be great game!

Ok, I thought about it again and I see the Steelers stuffing the Jets' run offense bigtime and therein will lie the big problem for the Jets... ONEDIMENSIONALITY.
In their first meeting the Jets ran for 100 yards or so. Sanchez did not exactly put up a lot of points on the board and in fact the offense put up only 13 points. Perhaps the Jets can run on just about anybody but they are playing the league leader against the rush and Blitzburgh is out for blood this go around. You will end up seeing Sanchez trying to carry the Jet offense on his back... which is an ugly sight indeed.
Week 15 was then... this is now. Pittsburgh is a physical team when last I checked. You better hope that Sanchez does not get his bell rung. He may wish he was in Puebla where they say and I know it to be true that: "Para mujeres y campanas... Las Poblanas."
Face it man... they are big and bold and they are black and gold and they are going to the super bowl!!!
My condolences to your team and well maybe the pilot will fly around the the Empire State building again and this time it will be all green (from envy).

based on your point that the Jets were successful against Indy and NE because they were unpredictable and those QB's didn't gameplan for the changes in strategy, doesn't that mean there are now 2 games worth of film for the Steelers to now prepare against and hence, won't be as unprepared as the Colts and Pats?
Also, the Jets were attacking two non-mobile QB's that didn't have the physical ability to improvise once they were able to process the different looks. That won't be the case this weekend...

Big Ben isn't a statue out there like Brady and Manning.........Rush 3 or 4 and Ben will run around and make time to throw. I dont care if you have 30 guys in the secondary, someone will get open eventually.....Im thinking the Jets will rush 3 or 4 and then keep a spy out there, thats what I would do. Another reason besides the staue angle is that Pitt is more of a power running team than Indy and England, actually alot more......Getting caught dropping guys into the secondary and only rushing 4 on a run play for Pitt will result in a 5 yard gain more often than not......This will make the Jets send more run blitzes and stack more guys in the box which will open up the pass game alot more.......and the play action for Pitt will work more and their draw plays + reverses.................

I agree that NJ has had recent success with their schemes and I also agree Ben can counteract some of the non-pass rush by rolling out of the pocket and extending plays. This will be key come Sunday to see who can impose their will. One thing Ben does, some call it a drawback, others will take a negative play from time to time because of his success, but he holds on to the ball way too long on certain plays and this could end up hurting the Steelers in this game. If NYJ can keep him in the pocket, Baltimore did do a decent job of this last week, I believe the Jets front four can have some success on getting to BEN. This game is going to be a fun chessmatch to watch...I still think the better team is the Steelers and they will find a way to win this thing, but the JETS are defintely going to make this thing interesting!

That scheme worked against the colts because they couldn't run the ball effectively and against the Pats because 90% of their routes are within 10 yards of the line. If they try that with Big Ben, he'll find Wallace, Sanders or Brown 40 yards downfield every other play. No way they can afford to give him that much time with 3 speedsters out there, the inclination to go for big plays AND a running game. It'd be suicide. I'm not saying Rex won't find a very good way to play the Steelers, but it won't be the same scheme they've used the last two games.

i dont disaree zona. th eBig Ben scramble has me worried. i was listening to rodney harrison this week and he mentioned that Ben LOVES to scramble left then throw back across the middle. if the jets can overwhelm the line from the left (their right) side consistently, they have a good shot
rex and tomlin know each other very well...will be like a division game

When the Jets were able to get to Manning and Brady they went down before they were even touched, Ben will not do that, he is one of the best at extending the play and making things happen. As for Sanchez having the game on his shoulders as a Steeler fan that is what scares me, just look at the weapons at his disposal, and they are extreamly hot right now. Steelers 24-20

I am going to see what a guy that calls my buddy takes and if he unloads on a total i will follow him. He has been money most of the year and I have won every week since I copy his plays.
