Referees are imperfect human beings that occasionally make mistakes.
Just like every other person on Earth.
A group of referees that did not take the time to look at the replay after the flag was thrown onto the ground.
A flag picked up on the last play that settled the outcome of an important game.
Of course humans are not perfect.
That's why they stop and review every scoring play in the last 2 minutes.
They didn't review every scoring play in the final 2 minutes back then, but they still had an obligation to review "the play and the picking up plus
cancelling the flag".
It would not have been as bad if the referee watching the play did not throw his flag.
Never argue with anybody over the age of 60 (WMI799) & such members on this site.
