I got on the Memphis Grizzlies bandwagon early last season, and did very well betting on them, as they had the best ATS record in the NBA. I also noticed a trait that they have that allowed me to cash even more tickets. So far, it's working again this year.
Very often, Memphis will jump out to a 20 point lead, or so. Then, they slowly (or sometimes quickly) give it all back, and end up barely covering, or not covering at all. I started making live bets on their opponent when I could get +18.5, +19.5, etc. Often times, I'll win both bets doing this. In fact, I win the bet on their opponent as often, if not more often than I win my original bet. Memphis is a very explosive team offensively, but they can blow a 23 point lead in the blink of an eye. Today, I was laying 8.5 with them. They were down 9-0 to start the game. Over the next 15 minutes, they outscored Washington by 25 points, giving them a 16 point lead. They were up 23 midway through the 3rd quarter. I took the Wizards at + 17.5, when the Grizzlies were up by about 19 points early in the 3rd quarter. That bet won easily. Unfortunately, Memphis won by only 6. I did save my first bet though, and damn near won both.
I don't have any hard, fast rules for when to hedge. Each game is different. Obviously, you want as many points between the two bets as possible. I usually am ready to pull the trigger at about +17.5. I almost always go at +20.5. Sometimes, I'll bet half of my original bet, sometimes I'll bet just as much. No hard, fast rules.
Everyone likes to go for "middles" occasionally. The Grizzlies just make it easier to win them than any team I can think of. Keep in mind that the later in the game you make the bet, the higher your probability of winning, as there is less time for the score to drift. Give it a try, and see what you think. Good luck.
