Orioles legend Jim Palmer

Anyone here old enough and seen this guy pitch? Was he as awesome as his stats appear.

Friend of mine said man you should look at this guys stats I had no idea he was THIS awesome and I went and looked and wow this guy was friggen amazing.

22 years old first ever postseason start he throws a shutout vs Sandy Koufax.

Check out this cool bit from that seasons Orioles 4-0 sweep of the Dodgers in the world series. They only used their 4 starters in the whole series. Some dude pitched 2.1 innings in Game 1 and a guy relieved him and went 6.2 1hit innings. Palmer and another guy threw complete games in games 2 and 3 and the reliever from game 1 threw a shutout in game 4. Wild shit!!! Games 3 and 4 were both scores of 1-0 on solo homers!!

I am 49 and a life long O's Fan  I saw him pitch in person.    Nobody won more games in 1970s than he did.

54 on this end and LOVED him as a kid! Still have a shit load of baseball cards (full sets) from the 70's and 80's!  

I know Britt Ghiroli(look her up if you are not familiar with her) and she told me that during Vince Scully's last season broadcasting for the Dodgers there was a sign outside his booth saying not to bother or talk to him.  Palmer  asked Britt if she would like to meet him and of course she said yes and Jim got her right in to meet him immediately. 

Was and still is my favorite pitcher . Saw him numerous times at Fenway back when bleachers were a buck. Three time Cy Young winner . Little bit of info, he never served up a grand slam in his lengthy, successful career. The O's had some fantastic teams back then, what a contrast to today.

Did he go into Fenway and just own them like he seemingly owned everybody?

Seems like hes so underrated when you hear talk of the all time greats, his numbers literally stack up with anyone. Im not saying hes the best ever but if someone told me they thought he was they wouldnt be crazy at all

Born in 1952. Met a guy probably in 67 or close . He was a huge fan of the whole squad but fore sure, Palmer!! He was my 3rd baseman on a pretty competitive team and this brings back a flood of memories. Being a Tiger fan thru and thru you couldn't shut the guy up about his team. Left the team to go play Lacrosse, same time of season cuz at 17 I seemed to want to run and hit people rather than a baseball. Palmer did have it all. A game, looks and poise. Thanks for posting. 

good stuff -I was lucky enough to see him in the latter part of his career-he came out of the 'pen in the '83 series to beat the favoured Phils--only pitcher to get World Series wins in each of 3 decades;

 yeah hate seeing this 7 pitcher games now--old school! as you say only used 4 pitchers in Series vs. LAD;  4 pitchers on the '71 O's that EACH won at least 20 games-safe to say that won't happen again with this analytics crap...

Steve Carlton was my guy but Palmer was amazing. Carlton gave a interview not too long ago speaking about how difficult it is hitting a low 80s hard curve or slider out off the ballpark compared to a 100 MPH fastball. Doesn't matter the location of the heater in or out of the strike zone just physics-based.
