Question guys,
I live in Canada, I have a buddy who lives in the states who uses direct TV. If I have him order another reciever and mail it to me, will it work in Canada? Im assuming its not legal, but would it work?

So if he gets everything activated through his phone line and has everything running, unplugs it, sends it to me, it will or wont work.
I have heard a story or two about it working but before I get everything set up and purchase the NBA season I wanna be sure, no one has tried this before?

My uncle used to be a Directv subscriber. He's a big baseball fan. I live about 30-40 miles from him and have the MLB Extra Innings. I ordered a DVR upgrade receiver a couple of years ago and told Directv I would move old receiver to my kid's room, so they are charging me for an extra receiver ($5).
I took old receiver to my uncle's house, hooked it up, and voila, he had MLB extra innings. The thing is he already had the dish and cables set up. All I needed to do was connect the receiver.
Also have a buddy that when we go to Gainesville once a year for a Gator game, he takes his spare (mobile) dish and receiver with him and we tailgate outside stadium. He just fastens dish to a pole, aims it at the Directv bird, and we're up and running. For some reason he can't get any local channels from Miami but everything else work fine. Gainesville is about 350 miles from Miami.
1) You need to have dish set up and pointed at Directv bird in the sky.
2) Don't know if there is certain distance where it won't work.
