The opening line looked like SP+ adjusted for HFA. When I see that I'm asking what qualitative factors are there and Vandy might have been terrible LY but had a lot of injuries and bring back 2 experienced QB's and otherwise like 70% of their production .. and the guys back from injury actually bolster their production numbers in my view .. Vandy fan pages are at least able to discuss a complete 2-deep and there's likely competition for starting spots. I could also see their coach getting canned if they can't get their act together vs their FCS and G5 competition this year so this really seems like a must win game ... Hawaii w whole new coaching staff, Timmy is a Hawaii hero but WR coach last year to now HC is a big jump.. coordinators I believe are new to that position as well .. 33% ret pro, no real QB experience and all the good players sans maybe 1 RB hit the portal. And its possible they have lingering problems within the program from the turmoil last year .. Just seems like a profile that doesn't make me confident in their model rating ..
Think I got Vandy -3 or so, wouldn't lay 7 on the road .. But check Phil when that comes out, if you get a sense that Hawaii was able to put a quality 2-deep together, esp on D, and the likely QB doesn't sound like a dud then yer at least getting a heavily adjusted number to play .. I did notice they have a bunch of upper classmen 42 seniors, 19 juniors and they landed quite a few transfers.. so very possible its not as bad as folks are thinking ..

Nice research Bridge! Even with all that… I’ve learned my lessons betting against Hawai’i at their place… I’m starting my research also right now for week 0/1…. We gotta get on those early lines..

Yeah I saw that… that’s huge… I think I just have a pheobia of that place… lost too many times.. didn’t they beat Fresno last year too? But yeah that QB out is huge… That’s like thier hometown team there and I know they’d get up for the rich boys coming to town..
I trust Lee to get them through that game but just gonna skip it…

You want to either play the OPENER, or close to it - or bet late in the betting cycle (usually). All the crap in between is just guys that don't know what they're doing throwing cash around.
At the end of last year Hawaii woulda been favored by 7-10 points. So now oddsmakers have no clue what to do, as Hawaii is a total unknown. You simply start with Vandy as a small favorite, and see what happens. Once settled down, I would think Vandy is favored 3/4 points.
Hawaii is one of two teams at least - you want no part of right now .... other being Arizona State. I wouldn't get excited about Ga Tech , FIU, or Nevada either.
Humble when ambitious - gracious when successful - resilient when you fail.

Nice advice… yeah they all had lots of transfers in and out.. although Arizona state does have some experienced transfers that could click fast… Emory Jones and Valaday from Wyoming… those two alone could destroy most group of 5s…

I was hoping to fade ASU at Under 8 wins, came out 7.5 and my number never showed up and no chance it will now... I guess in the world of 'anything's possible' sure they could have a big surprise year but they're already down to like 5.5 wins in the RSW market, I'd just do your wallet a favor and not talk yourself into them too hard at least for futures betting .. def a team you'll want to see play before putting any money on them lol .. and I'm an ASU homer!!!

I totally agree on the future.. anything could happen.. just had to stop a QB like Jones from taking off with 6 years of college football under his belt and that beast running back when they play group of 5 non-cons… and you know Hwrm will at least get effort out of his D…

My number on them is just 5.38 wins. And that number comes from a friend of mine who is an ASU graduate. I don't think he is expecting much from them this year. They'll have to figure out where to find some offense.

Ok St lost a heart a soul LB.. couple key DLs and of course the D coordinator… oh and what made the D better was the fact that Warren RB kept the ground game going.. he’s gone..
If OK St wins I don’t think it will be by much… OK states QB is super volitile.. he lost his main weapon also..

Defense will be OSU's biggest hurdle this year. I think their offense will be fine. Sanders settled down and played very well in the last few games of last season, with the exception of the Big 12 championship game where he was missing his RB and I believe one starting WR. Gundy ALWAYS finds a good RB. He recruited two 4 star RB's in 2022. The thing that concerns me about ASU is the NCAA investigation on them. I think Herm Edwards might be a lame duck coach this year. Only 2 starters back on an offense that has to play OSU in Stillwater early in the season. And it can be a very tough place to play.
