I see VCU as having a little better scoring potential. They shoot the 3 ball better and they are better at the foul line than Fla St. I suppose to be honest FSU has better defensvie potential so I need to mention that.
Both teams beat quality programs to get to the sweet 16 with VCU pounding both Purdue and Georgetown. FSU smashed a good Notre dame team and solidly beat Tex A&M.
But when a #11 plays a #10 for the chance to move on I have to believe that the two teams are reasonably equal and both playing very well right now. And there is the main reason for this pick.
I believe the only reason FSU is a 4 pt favorite is because of conference bias toward the ACC. I think VCU is just as talented and just as motivated to advance.
Can VCU win the game outright? Yes. Can VCU lose the game but come within 4 pts? Yes. Can FSU win the game and cover the spread? Yes. But I like the two chances to one for a VCU cover. If this game were pickem I would walk past but the books are providing a decent cushion here of 4 pts.
Ohio State -6
I think Kentucky can be dangerous in this spot but I see enough reasons to take a chance on OSU and give the points.
By the numbers these two teams are practically even with the exception that OSU shoots the 3 ball better and has more players that can successfully shoot for 3. Conference strength is reasonably even as well in my mind.
So if they are even by the numbers why not take the dog? I see depth on the Ohio State team I don't see in Kentucky. Ohio State has 7 players (Sullinger, Lauderdale, Craft, Lighty, Bufurd, Diebler, and Thomas) that in my opinion could start for any team in the country. Of those 7 only Thomas is more a very good utility player where the other 6 would be stars on other teams. They will wear you out with liberal substitutions and not fall off talent wise in the least. Are these NBA quality players? Who cares? All they have to do is be better than the other college teams in this years dance. I think this depth will tell the difference tonight and it is also what makes OSU very dangerous in this tournament. GL
